Laying at the foothills of the gently rolling Ozark mountain range, Greensfelder Park features lovely shaded trails and spectacular views, horse boarding, equestrian and group camping, hayrides, trails, nature learning center, picnic sites and shelters, playground and trim orienteering course.

The area was donated to St. Louis County in 1963 by the Trustees of the St. Louis Regional Planning and Construction Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1939 by A. P. Greensfelder, civic leader.

This is primarily an equestrian campground. There is a tie horse stall located behind the restroom that is lighted and will hold approximately 30 horses. A round pen is also available for horse turn out. Two trail heads are at opposite ends of the campground, with connectors to additional trails.

Pitch your tent in one of four widely spaced sites. Each site has enough room for multiple tents and includes a fire pit and picnic table. The sites are just a short walk from our shower/restroom facility. The fishing ponds are just a quarter mile walk from the campsites, and access to the numerous trails throughout our 940-acre property is directly from the campsites. While we have four designated sites, it is rare for all to be full, and likely that you'll be the only campers here most days. We are located in a very remote/rural part of Illinois in a county nestled between the Mississippi& Illinois Rivers, but only 75 miles north of downtown St. Louis. We have been included in John Shirle's"The Best in Tent Camping: Illinois."

  

The McCully Heritage Project is a 940- acre environmental center located one mile south of Kampsville in beautiful and remote Calhoun County. We are a private non-profit left as the legacy of Howard and Eva McCully.

Lone Spring Trail consists of sections on the north and the south of Hwy KK. The trail is named for a perennially flowing spring that emerges in the valley at the base of a ridge. It loops through Northwood's Wild Area and crosses Big Sugar Creek, a designated state natural area. The southwestern part of the trail goes through a more open woodland that is being restored to its original condition by the use of prescribed burns. This trail is marked in a clockwise direction. Trail parking is provided along Highway KK. White Connector 7 is available to shorten one's trip. A connecting spur to the north allows the option to hike to Shady 80 Lake, and White Connector 6 to the south provides access to Big Sugar Creek Trail. There is also a spur that leads to the backpack camp.
