Swan falls and Snake River Bluffs

Accessible via paved and graded dirt roads, this dispersed camping area sits along the Snake River canyon near Swan Falls Dam. Campers can choose between sites above or below the dam, with the upper bluffs offering level terrain not far from the main road. The lower canyon provides morning sun exposure and additional camping spots.

The area accommodates larger RVs on the upper plateau, where campers report expansive views across the Snake River valley. Road access requires attention to conditions - reviewers recommend high clearance vehicles year-round and four-wheel drive during wet weather. Cell service varies dramatically by location, with reliable coverage on the canyon rim but minimal service down in the canyon itself.

Activities center on the river, with fishing opportunities both above and below the dam. Boaters commonly launch in the morning hours above the dam. As one recent visitor noted, "People arrive in the morning to boat above the damn as well so if you don't want to hear that, definitely go below." The area includes at least six well-spaced campsites according to camper reports.

Fire restrictions apply - campfires are not permitted despite the presence of existing fire rings. Some reviewers caution about debris including nails near old fire sites. For additional camping options in the region, consider campgrounds around Murphy or nearby Swan Falls - Idaho Power.

Windy w/ road noise

Spent a week on the upper bluffs with a great view of the valley. Wind was absolutely obscene, which was to be expected since I was up top. What wasn't expected was quite how much of the road noise reached me despite being so far out on the bluff away from the road. Overall wasn't an awful visit, just much noisier than I'd wanted.

Canyon overlook

Beautiful campgrounds. When coming to Swan Falls go left on the dirt road at the canyon rim. Would recommend high clearance year round and 4wd if it’s wet.

At least 6 campsites that we saw. All of them fairly large and well spaced from each other.

Gorgeous

I stayed up at the top of the valley. Gorgeous sunset omg!! T-Mobile had available service but if you go down, there's nothing, no biggie, but I didn't mind that so much

Great riverside stop

I stopped here for an overnight in mid November.

The road goes down into the canyon at the dam. There is camping both above and below the dam. I camped above the dam, but if I did it again, I would go below. This time of year there is morning sun below the dam. Also more spots. People arrive in the morning to boat above the damn as well so if you don’t want to hear that, definitely go below.

Barely any cell service in the canyon but plenty up top.

Roads are good.

Awesome sunset views

Great area on the bluffs above the Snake River and Swan Falls Dam with beautiful sunset and sunrise views. Pretty level area not far from the main road. Only caution is that some areas had a lot of nails where they burned pallets. Stay clear of any fire rings. Fires are not allowed.
