Rough road but with beautiful views

We parked right beside the river, and it was absolutely gorgeous. However, I don't recommend taking a car on this road. It's definitely an ATV road as it's very rough.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the best dispersed camping spots in Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area?

The best dispersed camping spots in the Morley Nelson area are along the Snake River itself, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the water. Prime locations are found directly beside the river, offering scenic vistas and easy water access. However, be aware that the access roads are extremely rough and not suitable for standard passenger vehicles. These roads are more appropriate for ATVs and high-clearance 4WD vehicles. The challenging access means you'll find more solitude at these riverside spots, making the effort worthwhile for those properly equipped.

What regulations should I know before camping in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area?

When camping in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, follow standard BLM dispersed camping guidelines: camp at least 200 feet from water sources, practice Leave No Trace principles, and pack out all trash. Campfires may be restricted seasonally, especially during fire danger periods. The conservation area has special wildlife protections, so maintain distance from nesting areas and wildlife. Vehicles must stay on established roads. For the most current regulations, check with the BLM Boise District Office before your trip, as rules may change seasonally to protect the unique raptor habitat.

What wildlife can I expect to see while camping near Snake River in the Birds of Prey conservation area?

The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area is renowned for its exceptional raptor population. While camping, you may observe golden eagles, prairie falcons, peregrine falcons, and various hawk species soaring above the canyon. The area supports one of North America's densest populations of nesting raptors. Beyond birds of prey, you might encounter pronghorn antelope, mule deer, coyotes, and various reptiles including snakes and lizards. The river corridor attracts numerous waterfowl species and songbirds. Dawn and dusk provide the best wildlife viewing opportunities when animals are most active.
