French Creek Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Boise National Forest's French Creek Campground sits along the western shore of Lake Cascade outside Cascade, Idaho, giving campers access to both a forested creek corridor and a boat ramp on the lake side. The campground is split into two distinct areas: one fronts the creek, where the sound of moving water carries through the sites, and the other sits closer to the lake with a dock and ramp for anglers and boaters. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, though a mid-June visit found the campground largely uncrowded.

The access road is a single lane and worth noting before arrival, particularly for larger rigs. French Creek accommodates vehicles up to 45 feet, and there is pressurized running water on-site, which reviewers found useful for dishes and handwashing. No hookups are available, so self-contained setups are necessary. Sites near the road can collect dust from passing traffic, and creek-side spots run a bit louder than those set back from the water.

Josh D. sums up the setup plainly: "Forest Service campground, no hookups, so be prepared." The campground charges $20 per night, allows pets, and provides trash service. Fishing is the primary draw, with lake access a short walk from most sites. Campers looking for state park infrastructure nearby can check out Big Sage Campground or Sage Bluff Campground — Lake Cascade State Park, both located east along the lake.

Many campers appreciated the clean facilities and peaceful creek-side setting with good lake access. Some noted road dust issues but found the natural sounds and well-maintained amenities made it worthwhile.

Very charming and well maintained

The sites are spacious and well maintained. Bathrooms are SO clean, you’re right next to the lake and there weren’t many mosquitoes. The other spots are close but it doesn’t feel crowded and there are only a few spots at the campground anyway. Lots of trees so it was well shaded.

Great place to stay!

This was the first time my girlfriend and I go camping! We stayed for a total of 4 days! We stayed in site 6! The place is very well maintained! The bathrooms are very clean! And the most helpful feature is that the campsite has clean running water! Super helpful to clean dishes and wash our hands!

now this is camping

you see me and the fam came here a little after father’s day and it wasn’t busy at all, found a nice spot by the creek it’s a little loud but it’s natural so it doesn’t matter, the lake is right there as well with a dock and there’s plenty of fish to catch there, you know what, i’d come back here.

Beautiful views

Short walk to the lake beautiful views, so many little critters. Right next to the road though so a lot of cars kick up dust on the way by.

Beautiful Lake View and Access

Forest Service campground, no hookups, so be prepared. There is pressurized water (no hand pump). But it’s a 1 lane road, so if you are filling up a big tank, might block traffic.

Campground is split into two sides. The lake side has a boat ramp, but no beach area. Some sites can be reserved on recreation.gov.

Such a quiet little campground, with a little boat launch. This is the perfect getaway.
