Description
The Conant Creek Treasure Camp is located in the Caribou Mountains with beautiful peaks and pine forests, and clear running streams and rivers. Conant Creek is a trout-fishing tributary of the Falls River, and a known gold river. Camp in an open area by the creek in an extended mountain meadow. This camp has direct road access on a good National Forest Road, with gold and gems discovered in surface prospecting.
Conant Creek Treasure #2 is about 28 SE of the town of Ashton with all the necessities in Fremont County in the eastern part of Idaho, only 2 miles from the Wyoming border. The camp is less than 2 hours from Grand Teton National Park, and less than 2 hours from Yellowstone National Park, excellent for day trips from your private base camp.
This area has the feel of the Old West where the Cowboy Culture still lives on in all its glory. Idaho is known for its variety of gems, such as garnet, opal, jade, topaz, zircon, agates, tourmaline, star garnets, fossils, and more. Forests and streams are generally the best places to rockhound in Idaho. Conant Creek Treasure #2 is legally a mining claim -- gold panning and gem & rockhounding supplies are provided at the camp. Garnets (the Idaho state gem), quartz crystals, opals, and turquoise have been found at the Conant Creek Treasure Camp. You may keep what you find on the site, just remember to send pictures!
