The campground is rustic and noisy because of the chickens wandering around. It is beyond gorgeous by a surf break and a great sunrise spot. Very windy when I was there. Select a spot with some mangrove cover if you can.
The campsites are spacious and very spread out. There were a handful of other people camping, but I only briefly saw them while I was there. The bathroom and shower facilities were nice and well maintained. I was able to pitch my tent close to the beach and had ocean views from my tent.
This campground has extremely close access to the beach, which is nice, and it's not far from Kailua. The individual sites aren't really marked, so it feels a little like a free for all, especially if you're arriving on Saturday. The area where all of the tent spots are is all sand, so be prepared…
This rec park is one of the least visited since the area is no longer a busy as it used to be. There are showers and bathrooms with beach access, but I prefer to go to other beaches to swim.
Sand Island is an industrial place so there’s not many stores nearby but it’s a pretty unique park with lots of space to hangout. The beach isn’t the nicest but it’s good for little kids and there’s a nice surf break if the swell is in.
This website is in error. There are no dogs allowed on ANY Hawaii State Campground!!! Don't know if you know this or not. So if you have a dog in Hawaii, you cannot bring your loved one(s) camping anywhere. Too bad.
Date of visit (Jan 20) Stayed in Campsite #6 Like many campground in Oahu the campsites were very close together. We lucked out and there were not many campers in the park after 8pm. However during the day this Regional Park does get very crowded with weekend activities, parties, and tourists.…
I would recommend the beach camping spots. We had a site a ways back and in the trees. It was private and nice. Gates close at 7:00 pm. Watch out for centipedes; I got bit and it was extremely painful. Outdoor showers by the beach. There are toilets. Beach beach in all of Oahu!

Clean grounds great beach access clean restrooms
This campground is beautiful. The best sites are waterfront. You need to book early, the good sites go very fast! The campground is only open Friday-Monday. The camp sites are large and that makes it nice, because sometimes it can get crowded. There is plenty of shade too! I have camped here…

We lived in nearby Hauula Oahu for five years and this campsite was one of our favorites. The campsite is on Malaekahana Beach one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. The site is just north of Laie on Kamehameha Highway. The campground was recently put under new management and has invested…
We lived in Hauula Oahu for 3 years. This was one of our favorite campgrounds. The park is along Kamehameha Highway on the Windward side of Oahu. The site is one on the beautiful Kahana Bay. The Bay has a beautiful sandy beach which is great for beginner surfers and kayaking. You can also…
