Coneross Park Campground

We stayed at site 28, which wasnt waterfront but had a small view of the water past other sites. The sites are all good sized. Ours fit our camper and large truck, and still had room for three tents on the pad. The layout looks massive but its easy walking. The beach is a five minute walk. There are two beaches and multiple playgrounds, and the paved roads make for fun bike riding. The heavy foliage makes everything private. Theres no sewer hookups because its an old Corp of Engineers park, but the dump stations are modern and nice. The bathhouses were old and grubby and could use some upgrades. We didnt shower but did use the toilets occasionally to conserve on black water space. But I did peak at the showers. Theyre push-button jail-style. Bring bikes, swimming gear, and any watercraft you have and youll have a great time.

Site was in a hill looking down at the lake. Large tent site that easily fit two 4 person tents as well as a picnic table and fire pit. Plenty of trees to put up hammocks as well to enjoy the view during the day. Can walk down to sandy area of lake where people had pulled up jet skies, were boating, and swimming.

This campground is huge. A lot of the campsites are close together, but we snagged a site along the west side of the campground, where there’s a little more privacy and seclusion.

Being right on the water was amazing, the water was so warm and being able to swim from your site is pretty cool. This site had some stairs leading from the parking spot to the site, then slopes down to the lake.

Dogs need to always be on leash and there’s no alcohol allowed, which is a bit of a bummer.

Spigots and bathhouse was convenient, except no soap by the sinks.

I had such a great experience for my first time visiting this campground. My boyfriend and i went camping with a small group and it was such a warm and welcoming environment. The campground was clean and well kept. We loved the beached areas that we could easily access the water and hop on our kayak.

1st time staying here, absolutely loved it, sites were large level & clean. We will be back. My dogs even loved it!

Coneross is a nice place but.. its all about the lake. No trails at all. The beaches are very nice with playgrounds on them. Water was clear to 7' depth. Biggest flaw here was the bathhouses. They were clean, but only one shower worked out of the three available. The plumbing definitely need some work. This was the case in all of the bathhouses. If are all about being on or in the water its a great place.

We had a wonderful stay until we didn’t. After a relaxing week of camping, we were prepared to stay another week when we had an encounter with an individual who was acting out of sorts (wandered to our campsite, wandered to the front gate, and stayed in the restroom/shower house for close to five hours invading space of others and making restroom and shower use uncomfortable). This individual was wandering freely through the campsite without a reservation, making paid guests uncomfortable and the Army Corps of Engineering Staff at the front gate knew it. We asked the kind camp host volunteers for help. They called the front gate for help on our behalf. Despite three calls for help (1. to the front gate attendant, 2. To speak to a Park Ranger who we were told was coming but did not, and 3. a call to law enforcement, this individual was deemed:

1. Not to be a current guest, but may get a reservation - by John- Corps of Engineer gate attendant
2. Not being under the influence of drugs but possibly intoxicated by law enforcement.

In both situations - with John, the Army Corps of Engineering front gate attendant, and with law enforcement, despite the fact that this person had no reservation and did not belong, was allowed to stay on the grounds and never once was escorted to the front gate to ensure the story being told aligned with reality.

Gate attendant, John, was dismissive of our concerns. He even chuckled in front of us on the phone with both the Park Ranger and law enforcement when we insisted he call for help. He said on the phone this was not a big issue.

So, as paying guests, we were treated with less dignity and respect than a person who wanders in either by foot or by boat who does not belong. We also learned in the course of our very frustrating afternoon that this type of thing occurs - non-paid guests come to the sites from the lake and squat on campsites.

Our frustration - our safety was not considered or taken seriously and we were laughed at with concerns. The Camp Host asked Army Corps of Engineering Staff, John, if we could move to an overflow site next to them so we would feel more safe. John again dismissed the concern and said, “It’s been handled”.

We chose to cancel the remaining 8 days of our stay and leave because this individual knew where our campsite was and we felt unsafe. We also realized that if we had any other concerns, there would be no help.it wasn’t a problem for the Army Corps of Engineer Staff. For a place that locks the gate at night, this does not make sense.

We lost money on the cancellation due to Recreation.gov’s cancellation policy but the individual who hadn’t paid was turned loose at their free will to wander around and possibly get a site. The individual still may be there.

Disappointingly, we will never return because when we needed help, there was none. The safety and security of the paid guests was not the first priority.

Quiet and tranquil. Decent cell service with AT&T. This is a 2nd visit. Love the area.

This is a very nice campground with a variety of sites, many are waterfront and some have direct access to the water.  I rated it with only 4 stars because  the interior sites and some of the waterfront can get hot with no breeze.  The bath houses are well kept but many of the sites are far away.  The roads are wide and easily navigable for the most part, but in a couple areas very tight turns are necessary (sites 39-52).  Level pads with picnic tables and fire rings.  Some sites are well dispersed and others are very close.  Cell phone coverage is very good and several channels available over the air for TV.  Best sites are 47, 59, and 60.

There are a couple nice swimming beaches. Some playgrounds for the kids. All the sites were good spots. Level, lots of room. Picnic tables, fire pits, lateen hangars at each site. Lots of room for walking. Beautiful and peaceful trees on the lake.

Spacious sites, terraced to the water, wooded, quiet and inexpensive. What more do you need?

A great(better?) Alternative to Twin lakes. At least for me, I prefer quiet to meeting all the neighbors. Nice level spots and a nice swimming beach. Clean bath houses. Gates do shut in the evening so no late arrivals.

Hubby and I spent a weekend October 2018 at this beautiful place. Our campsite was right by the water and very spacious. The site has electric and water hookups. Bring your boat, you can pull right up to your campsite. There is a nice beach area for swimming and playground for the kids. The campground doesn’t offer much in way of amenities, but you’ll forget about that once you set up camp and relax by the campfire, roasting a s’more while watching the sun set over the lake.
