West Point Lake

Overview

Whitetail Ridge Campground is a waterfront facility on the western shore of West Point Lake, which spans parts of Alabama and Georgia. This man-made lake has 525 miles of shoreline that provide excellent opportunities for fishing, camping, boating and other recreational activities.

Recreation

Whether sailing or power boating, West Point Lake is a boater's paradise. There are boat ramps in 34 public recreation areas around the lake, including Amity, as well as two privately owned full-service marinas. Fishing is one of the most popular activities on the lake. A dozen creeks and more than 40 square miles of lake provide plenty of good fishing spots for the thousands of anglers who fish here regularly. The lake abounds with bass, catfish, crappie and bream. Bank fishing is excellent at many locations, including public fishing piers at Hardley Creek, Rocky Point and McGee Bridge parks. Several trails wind along the lake and through the landscape, including the Lakeside Trail, which is perfect for mountain biking. A wildlife management area of nearly 10,000 acres, located at the upper end of the lake, provides habitat for many types of wildlife. This area offers excellent hunting opportunities.

Facilities

The Whitetail Ridge Campground offers 58 sites with electric and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station, laundry facilities and hot showers.

Natural Features

Surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests that display outstanding fall foliage, West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line. The campground is forested and sits on the shore overlooking the 25,900-acre lake.

Nearby Attractions

The lake offers 21 day-use parks. While many people visit the lake to boat and camp, the parks offer a variety of other recreation facilities including tennis courts, ball fields, basketball courts, fishing piers with fish attractors, hiking trails and picnic shelters for individuals or large groups.

Beautiful Campground

What a great campground. Arrived on a Saturday and still did not feel crowded, looked to be 75% full. By Monday we had the place to ourselves. Had our own private beach also. Good AT&T and T-mobile signal.

Great campground, quiet

Quiet, clean Corp of Engineers campground. Clean comfort stations and shower (lots of hot water). Boat ramp and loaner life jackets. Level concrete sites with power and water. Dump station near exit. About 25 minutes from shopping in LaGrange, GA

Site 51 or any in that cove

Although we love Whitetail.. We won't book another site in this cove. ALL of West Pointe Lake trash lives here. I spent an hour or more picking up nasty trash! Still, our 6 year old gashed her foot wide open. Three stitches later.... ;(.

Beautiful and great cell phone coverage

We have been looking for a water view, with cell phone signal, in order to be able to work from the camper. Bingo! We are at camp site 35, which is in a cove and I’m not complaining of working from the hammock, overlooking West Point! I will say this particular site in a bit small, and you can’t stay hooked up to the camper... there’s not enough room. Site 36 is a better choice, but it was reserved. The pad is right off the camper and the few feet you walk to get to the lake is easy to access. We will be back!

Fantastic

I stayed in site 52 and there was only one person next to me. Sites were spread out nicely and taken care of. Gates close for cars at 10pm and reopen at 7am. Felt safe. Would go again :)

Beautiful views of the lake from all around

We stayed here for 2 nights in September and enjoyed every minute. There are a ton of campsites right on the water and there is a deep enough drop off that many folks had their boats pulled up right to their site. The bathrooms are clean and well kept and so is the campground. There are a few shorter trails for nature walks and plenty of spots to do some bank fishing. The fish were pretty active and I managed to pull in a pan sized striped bass. We will be going back again in the spring without a doubt.

Much Needed Recharge

We stayed at site 2 for three days and loved almost everything about it! The only bad thing about it was all the trash at the shore of the lake. I am aware this is out of the camp ground’s control that this occurs, but I feel monthly or biweekly trash pickups on the shores could help with the beauty and safety factors as well. The campsite had nice pea gravel that was easy on our pups’ paws and offered plenty of space. The sites are relatively close together but there are other sites that are farther apart. There was a nice fire ring with a grate for cooking for our convenience. The bathrooms stayed clean the whole time we were there. Overall, loved it!

spacious sites!

We tent camped here on site 23 in February 2015. Sites were spacious and spread apart! Almost all sites were on West Point lake or had lake views. Bath house was clean but a very long walk! They need a few more so it's not so far from some sites. We will be back!

Very Nice C.O.E. Campground on Lake

This is another fantastic campground and recreation area located on West Point Lake near Lagrange, GA. We stayed in site # 10 which is waterfront with lots of privacy. The bath houses were clean and centrally located with ample parking areas, there are other toilet only facilities throughout the park. The sites did not have sewer connections but were equipped with electrical, water, a table and fire ring. The area is very well maintained and the roads are paved which provides good areas for walking and bike riding. We stayed here in an A-Frame trailer and really enjoyed the area, we will stay here again and recommend this area for quiet and relaxing camping.

There are many restaurants and shopping areas nearby in Lagrange. We had good cell coverage with Verizon including data, there was also very good over the air TV coverage.

I Woke Up in Paradise

This was a last minute, fly-by-the seat-of-my-pants stop. I always search for Corps of Engineers parks because they are usually in beautiful settings, well maintained & peaceful.

I arrived late afternoon in a raging rainstorm so was lucky to find my campsite, hook up my electric & water, dried off & took a nap. I awoke to birdsong and that slanted sun, pre-dusk light that is so soothing to the soul. I was surrounded by green. So I set up camp & went exploring.

My site was one of the few not on the water. West Point Lake has over 500 miles of shoreline and 4 COE campgrounds. Whitetail Ridge is the most beautiful campground I have ever visited. There are many pull-through waterfront sites (my preference since I still have trouble backing in) and many more back in sites with steps down to the lake if not located at water level. The shower houses are older but clean and as with all COE parks the infrastructure is well maintained and spotless. It was too cold and windy for kayaking but there were plenty of boats & fishermen out on the water.

I am a 69 year old woman who camps solo so safety and cleanliness are most important - as well as beauty & serenity. Whitetail Ridge was a wonderful experience and exploring the surrounding towns was fun - plenty to see and do. I loved every minute of my stay & can’t wait to return.

Small, Lakeside Campground

The Freeman Road loop campsites are in close proximity to each other, with the restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities close by at the end of the lane. This is a great spot for family group camping.
