Great Place for Campers/Boaters

Camp host Bobby was pleasant and helpful,  Sites were a good size and spaced well. Georgia Power has some of the nicest campgrounds and this one is a gem. Great place for boating and fishing and kiddos will love the beach, not many trails to hike and very Dog Friendly (a must for us)  Bath house and latrines were absolutely stellar and very clean, laundry area as well.  Spray WELL for ants as they are abundant we had no issues but our neighbors needed some assistance in mitigation.  Close drive to town for additional supplies and a Publix supermarket is about 2 miles away.  final words... Great place for kids and boating if you're looking for wilderness trails this is not the place.

Come prepared for ants

Quiet campground with nice shaded spots. There’s a small beach area with life jackets that you can borrow. We were warned about the ants before going and thought we came prepared, but they still overran our campsite and the inside of our camper. The dump location was right next to our campsite, so we had a hard time getting out since there was a line of cars behind our camper.

Nice and Easy First Trip

This was our first real trip since owning our travel trailer and this campground was a nice and easy first go. It was clean and easy to navigate. Site 80 was pretty flat and easy to get level with plenty of room. Site is right on the main road but that surprisingly didn’t bother us. Not on the water but water views. Pretty Georgia pines and mixed hardwoods provided great shade throughout the day.

We didn’t use the bathhouses but did peek inside the one on our loop and it was clean. The beach looked nice and was close to our site but got crowded on Saturday.

The dump station and dumpster isn’t the most convenient to get to when leaving but it was as clean as a dump station can be.

Our only real complaint was the ants. My lord were they prevalent. Woke up the first morning and found a line of ants up every stabilizer and the tongue jack. Remember, this was our first trip in a brand new TT so we didn’t have any open food or trash anywhere. My only guess is they were getting water. Went to the local Home Depot and got spray and that slowed them down but effectively trapped the ones already there and they began to come inside at that point. They were not fire ants so we were not getting bit but still very unpleasant. To be fair, my wife said at the front gate there was a sign advising to spray for ants, I just missed it.

Overall we were happy with the site and the campground. I’m sure we will visit again considering it’s a 10 minute drive from the house.

Camping on Lake Oconee

This campground is all about the lake. Not just because its on a lake, but because with no real trails or other sites to see in the near by area its definitely this parks main focus. Situated on a little peninsula on Lake Oconnee in Georgia, this Georgia Power owned campground has 83 car sites and 8 tent sites. Be advised not all sites are directly on the water, so make reservations early.
