Ease, Convenience & No Frills

At best, this spot will be a nice, easy break on- and off-access ramp experience that hopefully won’t live too long in your memory. If you’re barreling up or down the major I-95 artery and simply need a convenient stop to layover for the evening, then this depot will impress by not taking you more than a minute off the highway to find a slanted slice of concrete pad you can call your home for the evening. If the somewhat decrepit office doesn’t scare you away, then get yourself checked-in and parked for the night after hooking up all 3 of the standard lines (30/50 electric, water and sewage). This place is so old that they even have a payphone (but apparently no change to use it, so bring your own). There’s a rundown laundry that you can avail yourself of if you need something washed so incredibly bad as to not be too concerned with the sanitary offering of the on-site laundr-O-mat. The grounds themselves are pretty basic with just a simple single loop that is dissected with a third lane. Insider's tip? While there’s not much in the way of anything nearby that would help this fledgling property live up to the term ‘campground’ if you were interested in straying a bit off campus, there’s 12 mile swamp nearby for some OK hiking (just mind the gators, or worse, mosquitos) or, further east towards the ocean, there’s Matanzas River, in case you’ve brought your kayak or canoe. All in all, my big recommendation would be to get in late, tie everything down and exit early to reach your ultimate, hopefully exponentially more elevated camping experience.

Happy Camping!
