Accessible only by boat, Rabbit Key Beach Campground sits on a remote barrier island within Everglades National Park, roughly eight miles from mainland Florida. The National Park Service manages this primitive site, which provides basic toilet facilities but no other amenities. Campers should prepare for rough water conditions during transit, as access can be challenging depending on weather and tides.
The campground allows swimming in the surrounding waters of Florida Bay. Those seeking additional options after their backcountry experience can explore campgrounds around Everglades City for boat launches and resupply needs. Bring all water, food, and camping gear, as no services exist on the island.
Description
This beach campsite site is located at the mouth of Rabbit Key Pass on the eastern side of the island. A vault toilet marks the designated site. This campsite is a narrow beach with dune vegetation. Be aware of prickly pear cactus near toilet.
