Within Everglades National Park, Lard Can Wilderness Campground requires boat access and advance reservations through the National Park Service. The site accommodates up to two groups and five people total, with three separate clearings that provide level ground for camping. A dock and shore area allow boaters to secure their watercraft during overnight stays.
The campground includes a porta-potty but no freshwater source. Cell service remains minimal to nonexistent in this backcountry location. Campers must pack out all trash and pay park entrance fees unless they hold an annual pass. Wind patterns fail to reach the cleared camping areas, creating persistent mosquito activity except during cold weather. Multi-day fishing trips work well from this base camp when temperatures drop enough to reduce insect pressure.
