Jump on by this RV Lilypad

While having to take a detour out of St. Augustine to get up north to Jacksonville, we dropped by Frog Hollow Court looking for a spot to plant our tent for the night. This RV roadstand sets a bit back from the road, hidden in the forested hollows immediately due north of St. Augustine regional airport off of US1– but you’ll have to look close for the delipidated sign, which we nearly missed, otherwise, you’ll never find this hidden RV -laden lane.   Good news is that unlike most RV parking lots in this area, Frog Hollow offers up some fresh laid green pasture for your tent-pitching pleasure.

With proximity to a major roadway (US1) that connects you easily enough to the primary highway artery in FL (I95) is a major plus in addition to offering a very intimate (read: small) place to park your RV for the night. While you can prop up a tent here, this place is more geared for the 10 plus wheeled rolling crowd, at least half of which seems as though to make this their permanent place of residence.  In fact, late at night, an RV actually nearly rolled over our 12-person tent encampment!

From an amenities standpoint, the land is flat, the single-lane pathway uncomplicated and water and electric hook-ups are offered at each site. There’s not much else beyond this – no bathroom / shower facilities, no BBQs or picnic tables. So, if you are coming this way, be prepared to pack EVERYTHING that you need. The fellow community though is nice and welcoming and there’s a few stores (Dollar General and Publix) up US1 if you need anything.

Insider’s tips? Arrive late and leave early. If you’re looking for some decent restaurants, check out the Food Truck Depot (509 South Ponce de Leon Blvd) south on US1 for some pretty amazing options: Funkadelic Food, Uptown Scratch, Odd Birds and many other rotating trucks park here with an amazing (and free) beautiful seaside view. If you want something a bit more formal and upmarket, just a bit further south of this is St. Augustine Fish House & Oyster Co. with live music every night (and very great food!).

Happy Camping!
