A Well Known Spot

Absolutely crammed on weekends. If you can get there on a weekday though it is very nice. Follow your GPS religiously, it is very rural but google maps won’t lead you astray. Good fishing from the river banks too. Bathrooms aren’t anything to brag about.

Remote and natural!

Can flood but there is dry ground to camp on. Sulfur water in the outdoor showers, great tent sites right off river.

Great Riverside Camping

This is a favorite campground of our as we like to paddle the Oklawaha River via kayaks. The river in this area is magical. The campground is set in a little cove. Reservations are not available - First Come First Served. The camp host is wonderful - been there for years. We can leave our cars/tents after checking in and head out for a day on the river and know the camp host is keeping a sharp eye out. (We also give him a nice tip)

There is not much privacy between sites - they are "find a spot and settle in" There is a lot of night lighting, not many trees for hammocks. Bathroom and Outdoor shower are as clean as can be expected. Grounds are well kept.

Keep bug spray close at hand during rainy season.

A great nook

Great camping off the ocklawaha river. Beside the ocala national Forest. Cheap camping but a true beauty. A little known nook for fishing. Camping. Off the grid. Get a taste of the Ocala national Forest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Gores Landing Campground located?

Gores Landing Campground is situated along the Ocklawaha River, adjacent to the Ocala National Forest in Florida. This campground provides direct access to the river in a scenic, rural setting. While somewhat remote, standard GPS navigation systems can guide you to the location reliably, though you'll need to follow directions carefully as it's in a secluded area.

Are there photos available of Gores Landing before visiting?

While specific photo resources aren't detailed, you can find images of Gores Landing through various outdoor recreation websites and social media platforms where campers share their experiences. For the most current visual representation, check official forest service websites or camping directories. The campground's picturesque location on a cove of the Ocklawaha River with views of the waterway makes it a photogenic spot that many visitors document during their stays.

Is Gores Landing a park or a campground?

Gores Landing is primarily a campground, not a formal park. It functions as a riverside camping area that provides access to the Ocklawaha River and serves as a gateway to experiencing the natural beauty of the region. The focus is on providing camping facilities rather than traditional park amenities, making it ideal for those seeking an authentic outdoor experience in a natural setting.

What facilities are available at Gores Landing Campground?

Gores Landing offers basic camping facilities including tent sites positioned near the river, outdoor showers (with sulfur water), and restrooms.
