Buck Hill Campground

Buck Hill Campground sits on the shores of Wakefield Pond in Thompson, Rhode Island, operating primarily as a scouting facility with large cluster sites designed to accommodate 10 or more tents each. The heavily wooded property features waterfront sites along the pond, which provides space for canoeing and kayaking. A few clusters include covered patio areas with electricity, while restroom facilities consist of basic buildings and porta-potties throughout the grounds.

The pond offers clean swimming water with several easy entry points, including a small sandy area that serves as an informal beach without lifeguard services. Campers looking for additional options can explore campgrounds around Thompson or visit nearby Bowdish Lake Camping Area for different amenities. This bare-bones setup works well for groups focused on fishing, cooking, and basic outdoor activities.

This is a great rural no frills campground

I’m pretty sure this is a scouting campground (Cub Scout). All the sites are in large clusters (each can accommodate 10+ tents). many of the sites are also along Wakefield Pond (big enough lake for canoe/kayak/etc. The area is heavily wooded without much else around and very few amenities.. A few of the clusters have a covered patio area with electricity. There are a few rough restrooms and some porta-potties. There’s a small somewhat sandy area that perhaps used to be a beach of sorts, though no lifeguards or anything. The water is clean and fine for swimming with a few areas that make for easy entry into the water (including the “beach”). Thos is the type of campground to just come and unwind, fish, cook, etc don’t expect much else.
