twin lakes camping

Dispersed camping above the Twin Lakes reservoir puts campers near the Mt. Elbert forebay with open sightlines toward the water below. No toilets, trash cans, or hookups are on-site. Pack everything in and out. The access road has steep, narrow sections that can drag low-clearance rigs, and big vehicles should assess carefully before committing. Motorcycle traffic passes through during the day. Cell service is available. Nearby options include Twin Lakes Dispersed and Twin Lakes Overlook Dispersed Camping if pull-off spots here are taken. Fires and pets are permitted, and fishing, hiking, and kayaking are all accessible from the area.

Easy access with beautiful views

Easy access off the main road. Depending on where you camp, you'll have a nice view of the mountains and Twin Lakes. Bring leveling blocks or prepare to use rocks to level out. Otherwise, it's a great site with just enough campers nearby that you don't feel packed in, but safe should you need help.

Dispersed Camping

There’s a lot of room in this dispersed camping area but it gets a lot of pressure too. Shady spots with some privacy are few and fill up fast - even mid-week.

Twin lakes CO

We dispersed camped here. If you exit off of 82 then turn onto 24, that will take you up to Lakeview campground which is a pay for site. Keep going past that campground and up there you can pull off many different places to camp. Very amazing views with trails nearby. You will be up by Mt Elbert forebay lake looking out over Twin Lakes. WE LOVED IT. No one bothered us, it was like we were in our own world up there. No trash cans, no toilets, no nothing. Bring your own gear/power. There are some motorcycle riders in the area usually but it's not to bad. They are just going out on the trails. Ppl in the distance with gas generators didn't leave them making noice all night either. Solar is the way!!! Pack it in, pack it out, so we can keep these gems. Big rigs will drag in some spots and would be dangerous to enter with. Most of the big rigs camped at the very top hill if you can get up the steep entrance.
