Arapaho National Forest manages this dispersed camping area along County Road 455, west of Grand Lake, Colorado, where sites are spread out along the road with no hookups of any kind. Campers are fully self-sufficient here. Sites closer to the road's edge tend to open up toward the surrounding terrain, and at least one site sits directly beside a small creek, which some visitors use as a water source after boiling.
A fire three years ago affected the tree cover in the area, and more recent visitors note that recovery is ongoing, which has an impact on shade and the character of the views. Burn restrictions have also been in effect during summer visits, so checking current fire regulations before arrival is worth the effort. OHV traffic on the road is a factor, and a handful of campers have mentioned that the area draws some transient use. Wildlife sightings, including moose, deer, fox, and at least one unidentified cat, have been reported by campers who stayed multiple nights.
Supply runs are straightforward. Granby and Grand Lake are both within 10 to 15 minutes, and Granby has a Dollar General for forgotten essentials. Cell service is listed as available. Nearby, Arapaho NF Dispersed off FR 455 near Grand Lake and Idleglen Trailhead Camp provide additional dispersed options in the same corridor. Larger rigs have made it up the road, though the sites run tight, so scout your spot before committing to a long pull-in.
