Gorgeous spot amidst burn scar. As a result, no shade/cover but temperatures are cool enough even in mid-June. You are right by the county road but “traffic” is only the occasional ATV/car. Quite buggy in the day, too, but not intolerably so.

We were here during the Cameron peak fire, so there was a lot of smoke. My boogers were grey and black from breathing it in, and you could see a general haze across the horizon, but it wasn't too bad. Being in Fort Collins was worse at that time. We drove pretty far up before finding an open spot, but the one we did find was gorgeous. Plenty of shade, easy footing at the site. It was a little difficult to find a flat spot big enought o park my truck on (since my tent pitches in the bed) but we did end up making it work. Lots to explore, many walk-in only spots along the road as well. Mostly deer, chipmunks and pretty insects up there, we didn't encounter any bears. There was a fire band so we relied on our camping stove. Be mindful of the altitude, we are experienced campers and still managed to get ourselves a little sick. Bring oxygen and electrolytes!
