Accessible via recently paved roads, this Bureau of Land Management dispersed camping area provides free overnight stays on spacious terrain with multiple level spots for RVs and tent campers. The entrance features two porta-potties, with additional vault toilets located at the nearby mountain bike trailhead parking area.
The large designated camping zone accommodates various camping styles, though the ground conditions present challenges for tent camping. Several existing fire rings dot the area from previous visitors. Cell coverage proves reliable for both Verizon and T-Mobile users, with some campers successfully working remotely using signal boosters and hotspots. The proximity to North Fruita Desert and other developed campgrounds makes this a popular overflow option when reservation sites fill up.
Mountain bikers frequent the area given its location near established trail systems, and the site attracts motorized recreation enthusiasts as well. Weekend activity increases notably compared to quieter weekday periods. MATTHEW R. notes it's "very close to the main bike trail parking lot and the reservation/pay campground." Wildlife presence includes coyotes, particularly active during evening and dawn hours.
Road conditions can deteriorate significantly after rain, creating slick clay-like mud that makes travel difficult. Most standard vehicles can access the area during dry conditions, but 4WD capability isn't typically required for initial entry.
