4x4 remote access gem!

Went camping/exploring to celebrate my wife’s birthday. And we were pleasantly surprised to find a nice spot overlooking the lake. The lake is small and it is recommended to take a high clearance 4x4 vehicle however we did have a Subaru Outback in our group and we made it back there without issue. No amenities so pack it in pack it out applied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there camping facilities at Wet Meadows Reservoir?

Wet Meadows Reservoir offers primitive camping opportunities with spots overlooking the lake. There are no developed facilities such as bathrooms, running water, or designated campsites with tables or fire rings. Camping is dispersed in nature, allowing visitors to find their own spots around the reservoir. The area provides a genuine backcountry camping experience where you'll need to be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. Prepare to bring all necessary supplies, including water, as amenities are not available on site.

Where is Wet Meadows Reservoir located and how do I access it?

Wet Meadows Reservoir is a small lake located in a remote area that requires some preparation to access. The reservoir is best reached with a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle due to the rough access roads, though some visitors have successfully reached it with vehicles like a Subaru Outback. The journey to the reservoir takes you through scenic terrain, eventually leading to the lake area. Be prepared for potentially challenging road conditions, especially after rain or during early spring. It's advisable to bring detailed maps or GPS coordinates as signage may be limited in this remote area.

What fishing opportunities are available at Wet Meadows Reservoir?

Wet Meadows Reservoir is a small lake that offers fishing opportunities in a secluded setting. While specific fish species information is limited, the reservoir likely contains typical mountain lake species. The small size of the lake makes it manageable for shore fishing or small watercraft like canoes or kayaks. Anglers should check with Colorado Parks and Wildlife for current fishing regulations, license requirements, and any seasonal restrictions before visiting. The remote nature of the reservoir means you'll likely experience peaceful fishing with minimal crowds.

What is the best time of year to visit Wet Meadows Reservoir?

Summer through early fall is generally the best time to visit Wet Meadows Reservoir. The access roads can be challenging, so waiting until they've dried out after spring snowmelt is advisable. Late July through September typically offers the most reliable access and pleasant conditions. Weather in this area can change quickly, so even during summer, it's wise to be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms. The higher elevation likely means cooler temperatures, making it a refreshing destination during hot summer months. Fall may offer beautiful colors but watch for early season weather changes that could affect access.
