Rustic Pine Mountain Lookout was constructed in 1933 and used for fire detection until 1942. During World War II, the lookout served as part of an aircraft defense monitoring system that extended throughout California. This lookout is historically significant because it only offers 180-degree views of the surrounding terrain, while other lookouts have 360-degree views. The lookout is typically open from May through October and is accessible by car. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and will need to bring several of their own supplies for a comfortable and enjoyable experience at the lookout.
The lookout mostly offers a prime location for relaxing and enjoying the views. Guests craving more active pursuits can find hiking trails and hunting areas nearby. Floating and fishing on the Eel River are popular pastimes enjoyed by visitors to the area.
The lookout is perched on an outcropping, at an elevation of 4,400 feet. It is in a mixed forest of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, black oak and madrone trees. Bucknell Creek and the Eel River are the major drainages in the area. The windows afford views of endless mountain peaks and offer a good vantage point for watching the evening sunsets. A variety of bird species inhabit the forest, and guests may spot eagles, owls, hawks and osprey. Mountain lions, black bears, black-tailed deer, flying squirrels, bobcats and Tule elk also live in the area. Please be safe around snakes and bears.

The historic town of Upper Lake is approximately 19 miles to the south. This former logging and ranching town offers excellent bird watching, various recreational activities, shops, restaurants and events. The Lake Pillsbury recreation area is seven miles to the northeast. This is the largest lake in Mendocino National Forest and offers many recreational opportunities.

Easy access and great store, with access to fire rings, tables, showers, potable water, dump station and trash receptacles. The tent sites are beautiful, but a bit too close to each other when there are dogs involved.
TravelerWe were here for 3 nights and enjoyed the summer concert series on the grass and the close location to a private beach across from the Rv park.
The spaces for Rv’s are tight, but we made it work. Tent camping is much more spacious.
The weather was humid and cool. It felt wonderful for July!!

It was a good place with lots of trees. Nice trails down to the river. I didn’t live this place because there were so many large groups. It was a Saturday night and I was pretty tired at the end of my trip.
The shower was $1 for 5 minutes. The hot water felt amazing!
GuidePros: If you are a person who likes to either stay all day at your campsite or are a water sport/water toy type person this campground is for you. Cons: Bathroom near our campsite wasn’t working. Campsites were overgrown with foxtails, not good for my dogs. Trash in our fire pit. A few campsites away from ours had a huge poison oak plant at the back where you park your rig. A walkway near the campground popular for fishing had a tree fall on it, instead of clearing the tree, the park rangers closed it off. Not much hiking in the park, and if you decide to walk the couple short hikes, don’t bring your dogs, NO DOGS ALLOWED. For the number of workers this park employs you would think these things would be dealt with, but no. I guess this is typical of State Parks in California, so much potential but sadly California parks slowly deteriorate.

GuideWe had an amazing 2 nights here. Never have we had full hookups with an ocean view. Also, experianceing wildlife, seal napping on the private beach, and fox napping one a far picnic table and a bear in the night.

The basic cabin was just that, but spacious and the heaters worked very well. Nice, well kept campground with plenty of activities and access to a coastal trail. The community fire pit was a nice place to hang out at night.

We rented a camping yurt and we were so surprised how big it is! We received a key to our own bathroom and shower! They had a sink to was dishes in and a place to clean our fish. We rented a motor boat for a few hours to explore the beautiful lake. Pet friendly. Great little beach. A dock to fish from. Everything you need to have a great time! They also have bigger yurts and cabins to rent. Also, RV parking .We have already booked another visit.
GuideHaving visited Lake County many times, I wasn't expecting much from this camp ground. I had intended to camp at Boggs Forest - my usual hangout for mountain biking when in the area. Turns out it's closed to camping now, so I took a flyer and looked at this park. I managed to grab what appeared to be the last spot available for the Friday and Saturday night stay I had planned. And it was a spot next to the water!
The spots are a bit close, but there are many options available - from waters edge on the creek or lake, to hilltops with views of the lake.
The bathrooms were clean, but I showered at the back of my van and didn't need to obtain any tokens to use theirs.
There are hiking trails, a boat launch, bbq pits, food storage lockers and a pretty good amount of trees to shade the camp sites.
I think next time I'd opt for a spot along the creek instead of the lake. They look to be better shaded, but may get more drive by traffic.
I did happen to be here during a heat spell - 104 was the high yesterday. The shade definitely helped!
I will be back since it's a convenient location for me - 20 mins from my father in Lakeport, 30 mins from Highland Springs and 40 from Boggs Forest. Oh… and the bugs are not at Al what you might expect. At least for me. They weren’t bad at all. I didn’t even need the screens on my van, but the zapper was busy at dusk. Update as I’m still here: for some reason the toilets no longer flush. After all those beers I figured it’d be polite to use a toilet to return them to their maker, but the first bathroom had a large deposit waiting for me. I tried to flush it, but nothing. Went next door. Only per in this one, and it wouldn’t flush either. Oh well. I added to the color of the bowl. Oddly, the faucet worked. At least I was able to wash my hands.

GuideWe stayed here for 2 nights at the end of March during an unusually wet and cold winter. So it was, literally, freezing at night. The sites are situated among towering redwoods. Which blocks the amazing clear night skies, but offer there own beauty.
It was great! The nearby towns or phill and boonville are super cute.
We are a family of 4 in a 24ft RV. This park is very accessible with many short and easy trails. The hike to see the preserved “hermit huts” were very cool.
Fire wood is available from the camp host who even takes Venmo! Life saver when we always seem to forget cash.
There are 2 campground loops. We stayed in azalea and The best sites IMO were 12,19,20. They are large with separate table and fire pit areas and on the outside edge of the loop- so minimal foot traffic and neighbors.

Sites are close. Some don’t even have area for chairs or picnic tables. It’s a membership campground which is surprising. Hopefully this is not the norm for other Thousand trails campgrounds.
GuideThis was a Great location in Sonoma county The campground itself is not the greatest it's very limited they do have a honey pot service but no sewer service. There's the Russian River and not much else to do but the surrounding area is fantastic you not far from San Francisco or Napa. There's no laundry room you have to go to a laundromat they have washer and dryers outside of the bathrooms but they're not very convenient

GuideWe absolutely love thousand trails and our membership this is not one of their best campgrounds however the staff was five star and so is the location so I gave it a three star. We chose to stay three months. No sewer but they do have a dumping station and a honey pot service for $35 so we took advantage of that
RangerThis is a beautiful campground! Cozy campsites with plenty of privacy. The road through the campground is tight and some sites might be hard to back up a trailer into. Restrooms are clean and showers are a nice amenity. We only stayed a couple nights here on a larger overall trip, however I will definitely be back. There are several wineries nearby if you’re into that. There is a Rivian EV charger as well, which was great to see.
