Mendocino Magic

Mendocino Magic is located near rolling hills and dense forests in Northern California. The area experiences temperatures ranging from 40°F in winter to 85°F in summer. Nearby attractions include the scenic Mendocino Coast and the expansive Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve.

Description

We are Mendocino Magic, an outdoor events destination and private campground. Formerly a 600 acre logging camp and then a commercial trout farm, the space has historically provided employment to a large part of the local community. As the commercial logging and fishing industries faded from prominence, the land has transitioned to becoming a recreational destination for those seeking connection with the outdoors.

Home to some of the best stargazing in Northern California, Mendocino Magic also features the pristine Holland Reservoir- the largest private water holding in the North Coast region. Miles of trails wind throughout mountainous hillsides and scenic valleys. These former logging era pathways now lead guests around ponds previously used for the trout farm, through manzanita groves, and madrone and oak forests, to numerous campsites, weekend getaway cabins, and furnished luxury canvas tents (glampsites).

Guests can enjoy a traditional campout, with the option to add high-end amenities. There are cabins and facilities on site to host and cater to large groups for private events, corporate retreats, weddings, workshops, and seminars.

Camping includes:

Central Camper’s Kitchen- gas grill, fire pit*, 800 square foot sound stage.

*weather permitting

Over 3 miles of hiking trails, porta potties, hot outdoor showers, private reservoir for swimming, kayaking and catch and release fishing, family and pet friendly camping, as well as adults only clothing optional areas.

We invite you to join us for your next unforgettable event.

Not Ready for the Public Camping But a Lot of Potential

On the positive side, the people that work there are very hospitable and friendly.  We had reserved 2 days.  But for $70 per day for 2 people (they charge by the person per day) there are not enough amenities and the grounds are not well kept.  Check in is not until 4pm.  First, there is no place to put garbage.  You have to take it with you.  Bathrooms are just blue porta-potties.  There is a map of the property, but almost no signs on the property, so it's hard to know where you are in relation to the map.  The campsites are numbered on the map, but not at the physical campsites.  Although the property is in the mountains and there is a reservoir for swimming and boating, (a big plus), there are tools and equipment in various stages of disrepair at several places on the facility that are not screened from view of the camping areas.  The RV hookup areas are too primitive compared to typical campsites.  (again, the price is too much for what you get)  There are canoes and kayaks available for use at the reservoir, (a very nice amenity) but various boating equipment litter the shores and spoil the views.  I was told this facility caters mainly to group events, like weddings and there are nice glamping tents available.   But it looked like they just didn't pick up after the last party.  We left after one day.

Love to camp? Y’all will love this place!

This was some of the finest camping 🏕 I’ve ever had! Pristine campgrounds and fabulous hiking. No people around to spoil the serenity and beautiful forests. Pitched a tent and it was just us! Love this place! Went to town for provisions, the folks were very friendly. Great area! We’ll be back for sure!
