Excellent Group Camping by the Ocean

This is a good group campground with sinks, showers and flush toilets. The one downside is how exposed the campground is, there is no shade. Bring a sun canopy if you can. A nice day hike trailhead is right at the campground. Also because it’s so close the beach the wind can really whip up, stake down your tents tightly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What facilities are available at La Jolla Group Campground in Malibu?

La Jolla Group Campground offers several amenities for campers including sinks, flush toilets, and shower facilities. The campground is quite exposed with very little natural shade, so bringing sun canopies or shade structures is highly recommended. A trailhead for day hiking is conveniently located right at the campground, providing easy access to explore the surrounding area. The site can experience strong winds due to its proximity to the coast, so secure staking of tents and structures is necessary.

How many people can stay at La Jolla Group Campsite?

La Jolla Group Campsite is designed specifically for larger gatherings, accommodating group camping needs in Point Mugu State Park. While the exact capacity limit isn't specified in available information, group sites in California state parks typically accommodate between 25-50 people. For the precise maximum occupancy and any vehicle limits, contact Point Mugu State Park directly or check the California State Parks reservation system when making your booking.

How do I reserve La Jolla Group Campsite in Malibu?

To reserve La Jolla Group Campsite, you'll need to use the California State Parks reservation system at ReserveCalifornia.com or call their reservation line. Group sites can be booked up to 6 months in advance, and they often fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. Be prepared with alternative dates as this is a popular group camping location. Reservations require payment at the time of booking, and you'll need to specify your group size when making the reservation.

How close is La Jolla Group Campground to the beach?

La Jolla Group Campground is located very close to the beach, which explains the strong coastal winds that can affect the campsite. While an exact distance isn't specified, the proximity to the ocean is evident in the campground's environment. The coastal location contributes to the lack of shade and exposure to elements. Campers can enjoy beach access as part of their stay, making this an excellent choice for groups wanting to combine camping with beach activities in the Malibu area.
