Kitchen Creek Road

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Hikers and trail runners working the Pacific Crest Trail corridor through Cleveland National Forest will find Kitchen Creek Road a functional base, with direct access to routes that cut through the chaparral and pine country of the Mount Laguna area. The campground is dispersed, meaning there are no designated sites, no hookups, and no developed facilities beyond what the land itself provides. Dogs are welcome, and alcohol is permitted.

Road noise is a real factor here. Sites sit close to the road, and passing vehicles are audible throughout the day and into the evening. One reviewer described it as "a decent and clean spot," which captures the campground's modest but functional character. Cleanliness came up across multiple reviews, suggesting the area sees reasonably conscientious use, though conditions during wet weather may vary. A February visitor noted the site could use more maintenance, though they attributed some of that to a particularly rainy season.

Access is flexible. Drive-in, walk-in, and hike-in approaches all work, making it accessible to car campers and those arriving on foot from nearby trails. Wooded Hill Group sits about 1.2 miles northeast for those who want a more developed alternative, and Burnt Rancheria Campground is another option roughly 2.4 miles out. Campers who want to explore places to camp around Mount Laguna before committing will find the area has a range of Forest Service options at varying levels of development. Kitchen Creek Road works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with minimal infrastructure and some ambient road traffic.

Decent. Tough time of the year

Could be maintained. Went during a very rainy season. So it could definitely be attributed to the time of year. Will be another opportunity in the future.
