Lovely

Sagehen Meadows was a veey nice find for our one night stop on our way to Yosemite. The '23 solar eclipse made finding anything closer difficult.  We suggest NOT using Google maps to find the campground as it directed us to a very rough, sandy nearly.impassable road.  It was almost dusk so we dropped the trailer at that entrance thinking it was fine for just the night..  We decided to off-road  for fun before dark to investigate further.  (We have a capable vehicle)   In looking at the map we noticed two entrances so we DID eventually find the more preferable way in, got hooked back up and found Sagehen.   ACTUAL Road in is dirt, wide, a bit washboarded and about a mile long.  Go slow to individual  sites as there is some shrubbery that could potentially scratch your vehicle.  We were the only ones there besides one Class B. Our chosen site was large, had a nice loop around the firepit allowing us to stay hitched.   Sde to side  leveling was necesarry.   We did not see many level sites.   On our site, someone had gathered enough kindling and wood for us to have a great fire, which was welcomed on this cold dark night...thank you whoever you are!  There are wild horses in  range and we could hear them in the distance.  It was very quiet and we woke to a beautiful sunrise.  I would stay here again easily!  Very pretty and secluded sites.

Snowy in April!

At approx 8000 ft elevation, this campground was covered in snow when we visited in early April.  It was hard to discern which spots were designated for camping, though we did see a rock fire pit under the snow in one spot. Be aware that this is bear country and there are no bear boxes provided.

The campground is open and free, and we did not see one other person when we were there.

The roads coming in are doable but you should drive it at your own risk. Hwy 120 was paved and fine (and open on April 5, despite Google maps saying it was closed).   Sage Hen Meadows Rd was washboarded closer to Hwy 120, and further in still had large patches of snow that made it impassable for our 26ft motorhome. Without the snow, the other hazard for larger rigs are the low hanging tree branches and limbs.  From Sage Hen Meadows you take 1N02A Rd, which is very narrow. Be aware you will likely scrape the sides of your vehicle on this last path in.

Verizon and ATT service was ok, but spotty in areas.

No amenities here.  There is a private residence near the campground, so be aware that not all the land here is public land. There were also road signs signaling cattle and horses in the area though we did not see any.
