Sierra National Forest College Campground

Where Huntington Lake's shoreline meets Sierra National Forest, College Campground operates as a smaller alternative with approximately 10 sites spread across forested terrain. The US Forest Service manages this seasonal facility from late May through mid-September, accommodating RVs up to 39 feet alongside tent campers who access sites by boat, vehicle, or on foot.

Each site includes a fire pit with adjustable grill, picnic table, and bear box, with restrooms positioned throughout the campground. Campers walk directly from sites to the lake for swimming and fishing, while a nearby marina rents boats and equipment. The campground's compact size keeps noise levels manageable compared to larger facilities, though reviewers note evening activity can pick up. For those planning extended stays in the region, pet-friendly campgrounds around Sierra National Forest provide additional options with similar lake access.

Campers regularly cited the beautiful lakefront location, clean facilities, and convenient amenities like boat rentals and nearby dining. The smaller size keeps daytime noise low, though some noted nighttime parties.

Lakeside campground near store and restaurant

College Campground is one of a handful of palaces to camp along Huntington Lake. It’s within walking distance to the store & restaurant. True to it’s name it was definitely a party zone at night.

Smaller campground

It’s not as large as a few other campgrounds in the area and that’s a good thing! Bathrooms are near by each spot and are clean often. They also have a private beach and an extra little parking lot of more than one car per campsite. Each site comes with its own fire pit and picnic table. The fire pit has an adjustable grill as well. Each site also offers a bear lock box. This has been my favorite campsite so far here. The lake is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen.

Beautiful Lakeside Campground

This campground was an absolute gem.

  • Right on Huntington Lake, and only about 10 or so sites so there was not too much noise.
  • Able to walk right down to the lakefront.
  • Marina nearby to rent fishing boats/poles.  We rented an aluminum boat for 4 hours one day for $60 and went out fishing on the lake.  We boated to the island in the middle to picnic and have some lunch
  • Shop nearby for any supplies
  • Hikes within a short drive
  • Check-in was not at the campsite, which was a slight inconvenience
