The narrow access road winds through hairpin turns before reaching this small Forest Service campground in the foothills above Lytle Creek. Sites sit close together, with some positioned just 12-16 feet apart during busy periods, though the compact layout means fewer than a dozen camping spots total. Wayne S. notes "camping sites are spread out" despite the overall small footprint, with space 41 accommodating longer rigs for those who can navigate the challenging approach.
Forest cover provides partial shade without blocking mountain views entirely. Lytle Creek runs directly across the road from the campground, offering a shallow waterway where visitors wade and take photos. The creek access requires crossing the street. Flush toilets and sinks surprise campers accustomed to more primitive facilities, with reviews consistently praising restroom cleanliness. A camp host maintains the grounds and provides helpful information to visitors.
Noise levels vary significantly by season and day of week. Off-season visits tend toward quiet evenings, while summer weekends can bring generators, late-night activity, and crowded conditions. RVs up to 15 feet can access most sites, though the winding approach road challenges larger rigs. For those exploring the region, camping destinations near Lytle Creek provide additional options. Reserve ahead during peak months, as the limited sites fill quickly.
