Free dispersed camping along a rocky two-track road that branches north from Highway 62 at milepost 138.0, this BLM site provides about 20 camping spots near the Colorado River. The gravel access road requires standard clearance vehicles, and campers report good cell phone reception throughout the area.
Sites spread along the spur road offer views across the desert landscape, though some long-term occupants have established semi-permanent setups that may limit spot availability. The location stays quieter than more popular dispersed areas closer to Quartzsite, making it appealing for campers seeking less crowded conditions. Standard BLM rules apply: 14-day limit, pack out all trash, and no water or restroom facilities provided.
Description
Each fall, winter, and spring seasonal visitors come to the Blue Cloud Camping Area located off of California State Highway 62 near Big River, California. Blue Cloud Camping Area is a primitive camping area and serves as an overflow area to the heavily used Colorado River Resorts. Camping at the site is restricted to 14 days within a 28 day period, however visitors keep coming back and are attracted to the area because of its close (but not too close) proximity to the town of Parker, AZ as well as its breathtaking views of the Whipple Mountains Wilderness area.
