Staff are awful

Long story short the staff were unhelpful and lied about there being multiple spots open. When we arrived the people in the spot next to us had completely blocked our spot with one of their cars and were using our table. Had to asked a second time to be moved spots and only found out there were available spots when someone without a reservation showed up to registration when I was up there complaining.

Great place to camp

Big Sur Campground and Cabins, while on the pricier side for camping, definitely delivers on cleanliness, service, and quality of experience. Check in is super easy, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The welcome package is a nice touch, 2 mugs, a deck of cards, flashlight and bundle of firewood. They also have free ice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate daily.
It rained the first day we were there, and campsites stayed pretty well drained. Our site was kind of tucked away in the back of the camp ground, near the showers and playground. The bathroom/showers were cleaned regularly and stocked with shampoo conditioner and shower gel. Playground was well maintained and modern

Plenty of water spigots throughout the campground, each site has a fire pit. During our stay, over NYE, there was a nice mix of RVs, trailers, suvs with RTTs and tent campers. The campground doesn’t see a lot of sunlight, due to the large trees shading most of the area. If you rely on solar power, you may need to get creative.

Paradise in Big Sur

Amazing campground. Expensive, but pretty solid. We were there in may and it was still pretty chilly. The campsite we were at was a bit muddy because of the rain. But our site was right next to the river. The playground was great for the kids and hiking around camp was cool. Reservation comes with firewood bundle, and a welcome bundle with a flashlight and cool mugs. Full warm and good pressure showers as well.

Love love love

I’ve stayed here so many times, both in an RV and in the cabins. Both have very nice sites for you to stay at and great views with tons of trees everywhere. Once we arrived and had to stay in a cabin bc my parents RV broke down. The staff was so nice they brought us pillows and blankets to use for the night while we waited for the RV to arrive. And the river is always my favorite part, to swim and chill or to go down the little rapids in a float.

Overpriced and Underwhelming

New ownership, who reportedly paid $28 mill for the campground, immediately doubled their prices to $225 per night for a standard tent site. No site improvements, just a 100% price increase. They are hopeful people will just pay because it’s Big Sur, after all. Don’t support this business model.

Phenomenal coastal camping where forest meets ocean

Big Sur is the best of both worlds. You can leave the tall forest transitioning on to the coatal beach and pacific ocean within a few hundred yards. Great camping sites with clean bathrooms and showers. If you love the forest and the ocean then you need to camp here and experience it for yourself....

I made this trip on last minute on Saturday and I was able to grab a spot but at 105$... a bit price for a site..nonetheless I enjoy the night but there was a lot of people. I guess is best to visit during week days.

Paradise!

We took my 3 year old camping here and we had the best old fashioned camping trip ever! We didn’t have electricity hook up and the 40’s we hit over night got a bit chilly but that’s what it’s all about! We planned ahead for that and took plenty of blankets and jackets and we survived! There’s no cell service, which honestly is the best part! I love love love this location. So peaceful, beautiful and amazing 🙌

Right on the river campground

It’s the best campground I’ve stayed so far. It is right on the river and with redwood tree surrounded. It’s also a smaller operated campground so it won’t get to the point that it’s a lot of people. I love the river sound surrounding you all days all nights for a relaxing vibe and sleep!

Nice night sleeping amongst redwoods

I camped here while bike packing along the Pacific Coast Route. Normally I would have camped at the state parks which offer cheap bike camping spots but they were all closed at this time so I had to reserve a normal full camp site. It was rainy but this site was still beautiful and actually quite protected from the rain since you are underneath the canopy of the redwoods. It had a nice picnic table and flat area for a tent. The campsite was densely packed but the site still felt private amongst the trees.

Big Sur Paradise

We absolutely love this campground!!! The grounds are well kept and the store has just about everything you could need. Sites are decently spread apart and all have fire pits. There is no signal and super spotty wifi but that's the joy of camping here- being totally unplugged. ☺ Cross the river by site 14 and walk upstream a short ways to the tucked away swimming hole 🏞 This place is truly a gem to stay at!

Saviors

This place rocked and saved our honeymoon when no one else would. Unfortunately during peak Covid, everything was fcfs or absolute expensive or closed, and we were losing daylight heading up the coast. Made it just before dusk and we were able to get a tent camping spot for about 70 a night which was not a problem, cuz a roadside parking ticket was waaay higher. Quaint accomodations, free coffee in the morning, mess shop sells fresh food stuffs and wood for fire at a reasonable price too. Highly recommend if you're stopping through for a night or two while exploring the surrounding area. They clean the facilities like 4 times a day or more and sanitize it too.

Magical spot

We don’t usually take our RV to place that are $70-$80 a night but this one was worth it. There is no phone reception at all, so you could fully disconnect. It feels so secluded, like you are miles away. Each site is semi private, surrounded with big redwood trees. We originally booked a site with full hook ups, but decided to change to one by the river with no hook ups as the river was just so beautiful. The showers and toilets here are cleaned often too. The showers are great! Very hot and free. There is a laundry that accepts coins, a small library and a phone booth. The staff are super friendly. There is a small onsite shop with clothes, firewood and some basics. We cannot wait to return! Our favorite place so far.

A little tight but worth it

Cute campsite right against the river. Fun for everyone especially the dogs. This time of the year the spaces next to the water are very shaded. Sunny across the street. Walked a trail to a nice bistro where we found some craft beer, cheese plate and fries. Delicious. Super friendly everywhere. We would definitely stay again.

Great campground, tucked into the trees. Nice quiet spot right on route 1. The campground has a river running right thru the middle, our campsite was just 10 ft from the river with tubing available for rent and rope swings into the water! Really great spot and super friendly and helpful camp hosts!

Fantastic and Popular Camping Experience

My whole family loves this place. River runs right through the campground and inner tubes are available to rent. Cute camp store with coffee for the grownups and treats for the kiddos. While the campsites tend to be pretty close together, the whole campground is nestled in the woods providing a very beautiful setting. Big Sur Bakery and Pfeiffer Beach are right up the road.

Many ways to stay - Tent, RV, or rent one of their cabins. I brought my RV and got a site that was about 20 feet to the river. Amazing!

Epic Campground on the river

I've been coming to Riverside campground fo the past 46 years and I'm 48 years old.  I've never taken anyone here who hasn't fallen in love with it.

It's on the north end of Big Sur which is great since you can come from the north or drive through Big Sur to get there (which is beautiful).

There are amazing riverside campsites (some for RV's as well) that have picnic tables and fire rings.  There isn't the most privacy, but the campground does a good job of putting trees/bamboo between the sites, so you're not joining them for dinner.

The river is perfect for setting your chair in the river and sipping your beer while you watch the butterflies dance across the river and pine trees.

There are also cabins which are great during those cold spells, but I've always been into camping.

The general store is fantastic.  You can buy steaks to grill and has a good selection of beers and wine.  You could literally show up with just a tent and nothing to eat and be just fine.

There is also a restaurant that is walking distance which is fantastic in case you want different scenery.
