It’ll do but you should look around

It is mostly military affiliated patrons at the park but it is open to civilians. It’s pretty pricey but everything is sam Diego is. Overall it’s a decent place but it would be nice to see Navy MWR actually invest in the place as the road is crumbling and there have been several major water main leaks in 2024 (to the point of having to shut the entire park water off). Instead of updating infrastructure they bought new signs and a fence and hired a bunch of people that do little. Also there’s a water park on the property that has been closed for years but the water is still maintained?? Yeaaaa that’s definitely the government for ya. For what it’s worth I stayed there long term while I was active duty. The only reason military members do it is to try to save a little money but the price has steadily gone up each year and is almost $2K a month now as of 3/25. If you’re actually RV’ing and not full timing I would check out Mission Bay or Sun RV as there is so much more to do and you’re near the ocean.

Great for kids

Playground and room to run. Checkout balls, horseshoes, etc. Swimming pools! Host a giant picnic here if you want.

Beautiful clean RV park within a park

RV spots are arranged in a horseshoe around a park with a playground. Sites on outside of horseshoe have to walk between interior sites to get to the park, bathrooms and laundry. Wi-Fi is good enough to work remotely. We didn’t try streaming.

Adjacent to the RV park are sports fields, picnic areas and a golf course.

The dog park is nice and clean and is reserved for RV park guests. The pool is beautiful and has a two-story tall slide. The pool is closed this summer and next (2022-23) but is normally open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

RV park is open to military and retired military.

Best location

The best location if San Diego is where you are vacationing. Close to freeways and attractions. You need to have military affiliation to book there, and there are a lots of full timers, so space is somewhat limited. COVID 19 has severely limited access at this time. We visit the campground annually and had to find alternate accommodations this year. The campground is clean, but quite crowded. Everyone is respectful and adheres to the rules. A great place to stay if you can get a site.

Fun!

We love Admiral Baker. the golf course is beautiful and the amenities are perfect. I was sad to find out the aquatic center was closed this year.

Centrally located near Mission Valley

Nice park, huge grassy area..dog park near by. Sites are close but there is open space behind your unit..NOT on a base, but bathhouse is coded entry to only allow registered guests use..

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Admiral Baker RV Park in San Diego open to the public or only for military use?

Admiral Baker RV Park primarily serves those with military affiliations, but it is also open to civilians. The park requires military affiliation for most reservations, which explains why the majority of patrons have military connections. Civilian access may be subject to availability after military personnel reservations. During COVID-19, access restrictions were more stringent, but normal operations have resumed. For specific reservation policies and current civilian access guidelines, it's advisable to contact the park directly.

What are the current rates and fees at Admiral Baker RV Park?

The fees at Admiral Baker RV Park are considered relatively high compared to other options in the area, though specific rate amounts aren't detailed. Visitors note that while prices are steep, this is consistent with general San Diego accommodation costs. Pricing likely varies based on site type, season, and possibly military status. For current and exact pricing information, contact the park office directly before planning your stay.

How does Admiral Baker compare to other military RV parks in San Diego?

Admiral Baker stands out among military RV parks in San Diego for its prime location with easy access to freeways and major attractions. It offers superior amenities compared to many alternatives, featuring a golf course, sports facilities, playgrounds, and swimming pools. The park layout includes spacious common areas and a central recreational space. While it has many full-time residents that limit availability, the convenient location and extensive facilities make it a preferred choice. Some infrastructure issues exist with crumbling roads and occasional water main problems, suggesting maintenance needs improvement compared to potentially better-maintained alternatives. Overall, its location and recreational options are its biggest competitive advantages.

What facilities and amenities are available at Admiral Baker Recreation Area?

Admiral Baker Recreation Area offers extensive amenities including RV sites arranged in a horseshoe pattern around a central park with a playground. The facility features a dog park, sports fields, picnic areas, and a beautiful golf course. Visitors can enjoy swimming pools and an aquatic center (though it has been closed seasonally in the past). Additional amenities include laundry facilities, bathrooms with coded entry, and reliable Wi-Fi suitable for remote work. The recreation area also provides equipment rentals including balls and horseshoes for guest use. Surrounding the RV sites is a large grassy area offering ample open space.
