Situated on the western shore of Lake Bistineau, this park offers a satisfying blend of beautiful vistas and outstanding recreational facilities. Memorable for its upland mixed hardwood forest, its open waters, and its enchanting stands of cypress and tupelo trees, the park offers two boat launches, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, camping, cabins and excellent fishing!

Beginning in January with the "yo- yo" season and lasting through the spring, summer, and early fall, the dedicated fisherman can draw such freshwater catches as black crappie, largemouth bass, yellow bass, catfish, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish from the lake's clear waters.

Lake Bistineau dates back over 200 years. It began in 1800 when several thousand acres of land were flooded due to a gigantic log jam in the Red River. Gradually, however, as the area was dredged, the lake began to drain. Then in 1935, a permanent dam was built across Loggy Bayou, creating the present-day Lake Bistineau. The dam has since been enlarged, giving the reservoir a surface area of 26.9 square miles, with an average depth of seven feet and a maximum depth of 25 feet.

Area 1 is located in the main section of the park, with cabins, and a group camp. Picnicking along the lake is tremendously popular at numerous sites equipped with tables, grills, and nearby restrooms. Several picnic pavilions are also available for larger groups. The park's trail system encompasses nearly 10 miles of woodland trails and an 11-mile canoe trail, for visitors who want to see the park's beauty from the water.

Take your pick: swimming, fishing, birding, boating of all kinds, waterskiing, camping, hiking or just plain relaxing and enjoying the unsurpassed natural beauty. It's all here . . . at Lake Claiborne State Park. For fishermen, the freshwater lake was lavishly stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, channel catfish, black crappie, striped bass, chain pickerel, bream, and white perch. The lake itself, at full reservoir level, has a surface area of 6,400 acres.

Two-bedroom cabins are nestled among the pine trees, and many offer a view of the lake. The RV campground rests among the slopes of the north Louisiana foothills, offering shaded spots to get closer to nature. Whatever your preference for an overnight stay, you'll be sure to rest peacefully.

One of the most popular activities for visitors of all ages is swimming at the park's sandy beach. The beach is situated on an inlet of the lake and is protected from boats and waterskiers. So work up an appetite for that fresh fish supper by taking a brisk swim in Lake Claiborne's famous clear water. Ecologists and sportsmen alike hail the lake's excellent water quality, and you will too, once you've made the trip to Lake Claiborne. Once on-site, you will see the area come to life as a park naturalist will be available to present nature-based programs and give guided hikes.

Lake Claiborne SP offers the #1 and #2 ranked disc golf courses in the state. Both courses offer 2 sets of tee pads, the Blue tees are for the skilled players and the Red tees for the newer players or first timers at the park. Families are encouraged to check out discs at the fee station on their next visit. Both courses start and end at the entrance. Scorecards and maps are available to the fee station or in the below "Disc Golf" section.

The woods of Lake Claiborne are also home to a wide variety of wildlife. Lovely nature trails and a scenic overlook will allow you to appreciate the beauty of the area at your own pace. Or you may be interested in a variety of nature tours, offered on a regular basis.

      Incredible location!

I've never seen anything so unique and beautiful as Caddo Lake!! Like being in a movie! The State Park campground is immaculate, staff and hosts are super friendly. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boat tours, walking/hiking trails, awesome! Nearby historical town of Jefferson was a quaint day trip or artists, shops and eateries. What a trip! Can't wait to revisit Caddo Lake and all its beauty!

Will add to my favorites list

I’ve been to A LOT of parks all over the U.S. I was passing through the area and my Roadtrippers app suggested this park. I love state parks and this one did not disappoint. I came through when it was raining (7/25/24) with no reservation and needed a place to recover and rest for the night. That wasn’t a problem at all. The staff were friendly and accommodating and there is hardly anyone camping here. It’s so quiet and peaceful and when I asked to be put on a site near the water (always my preference) they gave me the best site for the night! Plenty of running room for my dog and there’s a TON of room between sites, as others have said. The sites are large, too. I wish I could stay longer. There are fishing piers and I could certainly sit out there for hours. As we walked around woodpeckers squawked and flew through the trees. This one has been added to my favorites list. I’ll be back!

      Relaxing long weekend.

Had a very relaxing time with the family here. The campsite is very clean and the lake is beautiful. All of the staff are great!! Only negative thing was the bathrooms. Heater looked to be on and it was pretty hot inside.

      I'd give 10 stars if I could

We rolled in without a reservation which led to a wonderful interaction with the gate people. My dog came in as well to entertain them while I selected a site.

I had the pick of many because it was February. I loved the spaciousness of each site leaving a lot of room between you and your neighbors.

The bathhouse was immaculately clean. I went in expecting a typical park shower room with spiders or bugs. There were NONE. The bathhouse was heated and a welcome chance to shower in something other than a matchbox.

      I really can't recommend enough.

Perfect place for a weekend getaway!

Went right after Memorial Day weekend and basically had the campground to ourselves. Campsite 64 had a large flat surface to accommodate a six person tent (North Face Wawona 6) with a vestibule. Great place for a weekend getaway from the DFW area ~3 hr drive). Overall the park has nice amenities, easy hikes, and great canoeing-kayaking!

      Nice Park Overall

We are from TX and came to Arkansas for a wedding. This was my first out of state, state park so keep that in mind. The sites are clean and well cared for. There is exactly ONE pull through site that we were fortunate enough to get. The rest are on a tight road. The highway runs right by the pull through site so the road noise can be loud at times. I recommend staying by the lake if you don’t need a pull through site. There are 2 walking trails and a few playgrounds. No fishing off the pier. The lake is BEAUTIFUL, we saw an alligator (I was quite excited about that). The dump station is a pretty tight squeeze but doable if your site doesn’t have a dump (ours did). ATT cell service SUUUUCKS here. I repeat, it suuuuuucks lol! Picked up 4 TV channels on the 1 rainy day we had. All in all, I would stay here again, just wouldn’t compare it to TX State Parks, because well…. I learned this weekend everything is indeed bigger in Texas.

      Decent park

I tent camped here in April 2023. The staff was friendly and the office was still open at 6pm, when I arrived on a Saturday. I don’t know their normal hours. The weather was nice but it had just rained so my campsite was wet with a little mud. Plus it was a little uneven without much clear space for a tent but my tent fit because it is a 2-person tent. Other sites had wooden platforms but mine didn’t. I took an evening walk on the Discovery Trail and saw two deer. There are several other, longer trails. I didn’t explore the lake. The bathroom/shower house was clean. It was a little ways from I-20 but overall decent park.

      Delightful Park

This is a delightful park on the west side of Shreveport. There’s an adorable playground and fabulous pool. Tables with chairs on many sites. Benches, landscaping, grass and shade trees. Clean bathrooms with 3 showers. Road noise might be a distraction for the sites at the entrance area of the park.

      Nice enough

We stayed here for a one night stopover. I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to stay there again but I was happy enough with my stop. It’s an older park. The lake is pretty swampy. No sewer at the sites, but water and electric. Cell service with AT&T was pretty weak but manageable to get some work done. Bathhouse was a typical older state park set up. Definitely needs some TLC. It would take a little work to get level in most of the sites from what I can see. They do have a wooden platform (almost like a deck) at most sites that is pretty cool. Our table was old and kinda warped. There is a fire pit. Table and fire are down a level but sites where we stayed were large and spacious. The park was almost empty during our stay but when we booked there were very few open sites available less than a week earlier. That seemed odd once we saw there was literally no one staying there. Sunset was beautiful.

Definitely not a restful place to spend any time

Electric hook up does not work. Water outlet faces directly upward and requires a hose to access the water. It’s almost impossible to simply fill a kettle, as the water shoots straight up. Traffic noise is constant and LOUD.

      Beautiful state park

Lake Bistineau is a great state park park near Shreveport, LA. We stayed 2 nights. The sites are very shady. The park streets and sites are asphalt. Some roads need repaving. The park was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the lake was drawn down to eradicate an invasive water plant. But, this presented a unique opportunity. We could walk on the dry lake bottom and see the parts of cypress trees that are normally under water.

Stayed in back-in campsite#14 which was level side to side, but the front was higher. The site has a nice view of the lake and a large wooden deck. There was just enough parking for my 34 ft TT and truck. Neighbors are nearby, but not too close. The site included: picnic table on concrete, BBQ pit, trash pole, and fire ring. Utilities: 20/30/50A electric in back. Water in back, good pressure. No sewer, but a dump station is available.

AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and Verizon 2 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 5.1 Mbps down, 0.7 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 7.4 Mbps down, 0.1 Mbps up. No WiFi.

Would stay here again. We camped at Lake Bistineau State Park in a Travel Trailer.

      Not really a recreational KOA

This campground is now a KOA. It appears to have more long term campers living here than anything else. The campgrounds offered are split across a highway. The pool is only on one section. It is required to shower before using the pool but there is no shower or bathroom at the pool. The lodge is reserved for other paying patrons. You have to wear a pink paper bracelet to prove you are allowed access. If you want to use the hot tub you must contact the office and pay for the propane. The park does have nice paved parking pads and a newly paved road. Roads are narrow though. The entry to the park did confuse us a little. It’s a bit of a walk to the pool or office. I guess it worked for just staying the night.

      Beyond Excellent staff

5 stars based on staff alone.  i feel horrible that i can't remember the gentleman's name.  we called on a saturday evening, got the voicemail and left a message.  within 30 minutes he called us back.  we told him we were just looking for an overnight stay that night.  we have a 40ft toyhauler + truck = 60 ft and would love a pull thru site.  it sounds like he actually drove to the campground to verify everything.  called us back again and booked us exactly what we wanted.  site was easy to find in the dark.  pull thru sites seem a bit tight, but worked fine.  we left at 8am so we only saw the very front part of the campground.  seems a little older, but nice and would stay there again.

I think it is an OK campground just to hot to tell

Ok seems to be well kept up. Has 2 areas short stay and long term stay. We got in at 1:30 it was 100. A little to hot to really walk around. Though the coolest place tobe is the restrooms and laundry, very nice, how long can you stay in.

They have a pool and it is used. Nice play area for kids.

Sites are gravel and very level, did not have to use our automatic levelers, impressed.

AR 7 PMit was still 100 but went out and got some video and photos.

Under New Ownership as a KOA

This new KOA is ok for an overnight stop while passing through. They recently completed construction on new concrete pads at the front of the property with a swing, picnic tables and fire pit at each site. Absolutely zero shade which was terrible during this heat wave with 105 degree days.

As a recently acquired KOA the pool was actually attached to the owners old home (he moved down the property to a new home) and the house is now rentable for larger groups. There are a handful of cabins in the back past the store. The campsite has a bizarre single track road in and out that requires one party to pull off into grass to allow another to pass.

If you're looking for all the standard KOA amenities, including jumping pillow or other trademarked amenity, this will do for a night or two.
