South of Interstate 10 near Quartzsite, New Water Mountains Wilderness BLM spans across desert terrain with multiple dispersed camping spots accessible by dirt and gravel roads. The Bureau of Land Management maintains this free camping area where campers can bring pets and enjoy campfires without reservations or fees.
Road conditions vary throughout the area, with easier access near the interstate and rockier, narrower paths leading to more remote sites further south. Campers report minimal traffic from off-road vehicles and surprisingly light use even during peak winter months. Cell service works well for both Verizon and AT&T users. The area sees occasional shooting activity, though campers note relatively little litter compared to other dispersed camping zones. RV users should assess their comfort level with the terrain before venturing to southern sections.
