FR 253 Dispersed — Coconino NF near Munds Park

FR 253 runs south of Flagstaff through open Ponderosa pine forest in Coconino National Forest, about 15 miles from town off I-17, with a large meadow roughly three-quarters of a mile in and camping spots strung along the road for several miles beyond. The corridor handles everything from tents to full-size Class A rigs, with a mix of shady tree cover and sunny clearings — though the access road gets genuinely rough and muddy in wet conditions, so high-clearance is strongly advisable after rain. ATV and OHV traffic picks up on weekends; the gate through the adjacent transfer station is typically locked from November through March, limiting use to the warmer months.
