Within the Lower Chatanika River State Recreation Area, Olnes Pond Public Use Cabin provides full RV hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections at a lakeside location. The facility allows campfires and welcomes pets, making it accessible for various camping setups.
Campers can fish directly from Olnes Pond or explore the hiking and biking trails that wind through the recreation area. Kayaking opportunities exist on the lake itself. The drive-in access keeps the site reachable by standard vehicles, though reservations help secure availability during peak seasons. Whitefish Campground sits less than a mile away for those preferring a different lakeside experience.
Description
The Lower Chatanika State Recreation Area encompasses approximately 400 acres at mile 10.5 of the Elliot Highway. Developed sites within the recreation area include Olnes Pond and Whitefish campgrounds.
ATV's are not allowed on roads or highways. A maximum speed limit of 10 miles per hour for ATV's in the campground. Quiet hours are from 11:00pm to 6:00am. No ATV riding allowed during quiet hours.
