Quiet. Peaceful. Private. Get off the highway and avoid the parking lots cleverly disguised as RV parks, campgrounds and resorts. We offer 50 water and electric sites and 30 tent sites, all of which are along the Tolsona Creek. Come fish in our creek or just relax for a few days. Either way, you will not find a better place to camp in Alaska.

    Overview

Sourdough Creek Campground is located at MP 147.5 of the Richardson Highway near the shores of the Gulkana River. The campground has 42 camp sites, including 4 accessible and 2 walk-in sites. All campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is equipped with restrooms, water, picnic tables, and fire rings. Campers may also enjoy a short hike along the Sourdough Creek Interpretive Trail within the campground. The boat launch area is the take-out for float trips on the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River and provides river access to both motorized boaters and floaters.

    Recreation

In addition to RV and tent recreational camping opportunities, the campground provides access to the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River. Floaters use the boat launch as a put-in and take-out point as well as jet boat users in the river corridor. Activities this site supports include recreational fishing from the bank, subsistence hunting access for caribou and moose, as well as berry picking and trapping. There is a boat launch at the rivers edge and a nice picnic area for day use. Outhouse style bathrooms, information and bulletin boards, hiking trails, and handicapped accessible fishing ramps and trails complete with interpetative panels. Sourdough Creek Campground along with the boat launch can be very busy from approximately Memorial Day through mid July mainly by fishermen and boaters taking part in the King salmon fishing in the Gulkana River. There are a number of fishing guides using the boat launch at Sourdough Creek Campground. Later in the summer, after the salmon fishing subsides, the campground generally gets a lot quieter.

    Natural Features

Activities this site supports include recreational fishing from the bank, subsistence hunting access for caribou and moose, as well as berry picking and trapping. There is a boat launch at the rivers edge and a nice picnic area for day use.

Stump Creek is very special to us because my grandfather homesteaded here in the 60s and it's still in the family. This location was Pappy and Gramma's main homestead where they rented cabins and had a little store to produce extra income to raise their family. It is our privilege to be continuing their legacy. We have two separate wall tents, 1 tent camping spot available and hope to provide a premium experience to our guests.

    Very close to water access

This summer there was a lot of construction on the high way, you have to wait for a “pilot” car going the direction you want then you follow the heard.

    Great boat access areas

    Great Family Camping

Camp hosts were so nice! Good sized spots and all with a River view. Water and electric hook ups at most sites and no noise from generators. Picnic table a fire ring on sites.

You can rent float tubes for the River and the have life jackets for kids. We are already looking forward to our trip next year.

    Not what it once was

This campground once was a true camping experience. Now it's more of children's activity park.  The office rents tubes and no one monitors where these tubes go,, no peaceful campsites, no fishing. The campground needs full maintenance, the sites are overgrow, the bathhouse is unkept and could use updates,  Just not wilderness, more theme park.

    Great people and place

The campsites are decently sized. The people working, visiting and in the area were all great. Very respectful of each other, helping newer fishers with techniques and how to tips. we had many great encounters with people on this adventure. Caught lots of reds and exchanged some great receipts with others. We took the car and gear without any problems. The shop had firewood for sale along with basic necessities.

    Great spot

In the middle of nowhere but still close enough to run to Glennallen. If you are camping anywhere between Lake Louise and Copper Center this is a great stop. I would recommend more than a single over night here.

If you don’t have a jacket the nice people there will sell you a hoodie. If you are staying in the area this is a great spot.

    Right on the river

Well maintained campground. Kind of like a folk festival. Very friendly staff. If you are looking for a great place to camp here it is.

Call and make reservations! 907-822-3991 or kscharters@gmail.com

Prices are a little high for tent camping but pretty standard for RVs. Pets are welcome but drive slowly. Not a ton of room between spots.

    Primitive camping by the river.

We stayed here before our river trip down the Nelchina river. Nice place to set up a tent and sit by the fire. Lots of wildlife in the area. Saw bear tracks close to tent so make sure you use bear safe containers and don't take food in your tents. Amazing views all around. The river is nice and has some amazing views.

Please pack out what you take in and leave no trace. This is a nice spot to camp with a picnic table and out house and great tent spots. Last time I camped here it was tent camping only.

    Showers!

I’m not sure if it was the free hot shower, the free coffee in the morning, or the sound of sleeping by running water that sold me. Nice stop on the way to Wrangel and great hosts!

    Creekside Camping with Amenities

Tucked back in the woods next to Tolsona Creek this campground is about 15 miles from Glennallen. This campground has a small shop, laundry, showers, flush toilets, dump stations, and offers electrical hook ups for RVs. All campsites appear to be located along the creek. This is a family owned campground that offers daily family friendly activities.

Not Your Typical Alaskan RV Park!

This is not your typical Alaskan RV park! Sites are large, spread out and private. Each has a fire ring and a picnic table. All are creekside.

The owners maintain a camp store with basic necessities and also plan weekend activities and games for kids. Near the camp store are handicap accessible sites, bathrooms, private showers and laundry.

Near the entrance to the campground is the trailhead to the Tolsona Mud Volcanoes. The trail is usually pretty swampy, so be sure to wear tall boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Trail is 2-2.5mi round trip.

Gorgeous quiet campground with great amenities

Family friendly campground surrounded by creeks and trees. Quiet, clean, and incredibly friendly hosts. Hot showers and clean restrooms available for guests, as well as a “store” inside the check in office, with ice cream and other treats. Activities available on request (we got 2 frisbees to play in the open common area). I would recommend to any and everyone!

    Tolsona Wilderness Campground

    Fun, well-kept, family friendly

We stumbled upon this campground in our way home from Valdez over the 4th of July holiday one year. We were pleasantly surprised! The place was very clean and huge! Kind folks who were happy to chat and help us out. Beautiful property with a little river running through it. Hiking trails, private spots and family events available. Very child-friendly place. The showers and bathrooms were clean and their store was very nice and convenient. Overall great place and we will venture to Flennallen again to stay here.
