GuideWe booked a one night stay here as a trial run with our brand new travel trailer. Our daughter loved it so much that she begged to stay another night. Luck was on our side as there was a last minute cancellation and we were able to extend our stay 1 more night. The park had helpful and friendly staff, clean bathrooms, a nice laundry facility, and even a playground with a communal pavilion for people to gather round together. We would stay here again. There was a bit of road noise from the nearby highway but our family wasn't bothered at all by it as we are used to living on a base with lots of jet noise. Pet friendly and Wi-Fi is available and free! Propane, water fill, and dump station are available at this park.

ScoutThis was a close 10 minutes from my home and helped satiate my desire to get away from town for the night. I definitely prefer more off the grid places than Eagle river, but the sites were great and the bathrooms pretty clean and stocked.

If you do stay in Eagle River the Eagle River Nature Center is a must. Hiking trails for all abilities. The only downside is that the highway is right above this campground but the river frowns out most of the noise. 2020 construction includes a new bridge.
Alaska does not disappoint with its state parks.
ScoutNice, well equipped campground. Sits right on the Eagle River. River is very fast, so advise watching pets and children carefully. Close to Anchorage, but far enough out of town to get away from the hustle. Still a slightly busy campground in summer months.
LegendGreat spot close to our home of Anchorage for when we don't want to go too far. Large pavillion great for get-togethers right along the river and includes it's own bathroom. Semi-seclude sites give privacy with large open areas at your fire pits, great for groups. Some double sites perfect for camping with friends. Pet friendly just please keep the leashed and clean up after them. Watch for bear activity and make sure to keep all food and enticing items locked up.
TravelerOur group of 13 bicycle tourists had trouble finding places to pitch tents at this campground because the ground was hard, uneven and strewn with roots and rocks. The campground has no running water, and there is a warning that the water needs to boiled or filtered at the one water pump for the whole camp. No bear/animal boxes are available for storing food or trash securely, aside from using the toilet rooms.
Camping directly on the Matanuska River provides a great view of King Mountain on the opposite bank, and there is a nearby ice cream shop/post office across the street, and a cafe a few miles west on the road for those that want showers or an indoor meal (closes at 6pm though).
GuideThe hike of 2.7 miles was very easy with amazing views to the yurt at the end with lots of pre-cut firewood for the campers use. Eagle River was just steps away from our site and there was lots of wildlife as well.
