Hikers heading into the Walls of Jericho trail system can use this free backcountry site as a base for day trips, including the Mill Creek loop and the main canyon. The site sits roughly 2.7 miles from the Alabama trailhead parking lot, just before the Hurricane Creek Bridge. It accommodates a few tents and includes one fire ring. No restrooms. Water is available from Hurricane Creek but requires treatment or filtration. Cell service is weak to nonexistent with Verizon. Those exploring camping near James D. Martin - Skyline Wildlife Management Area will find other sites along the same trail, including Walls of Jericho - Clark Cemetery Backcountry Campsite 0.3 miles west. Solitude

This is a great spot to camp if you are wanting to do some easy backpacking in Alabama. It is quiet and right on Hurricane creek on the way to Walls of Jericho. There are no amenities and you must pack in and pack out what you use.

Easy access riverside site

I just got back from a weekend backpacking trip to Wall of Jericho and stayed at this site located right after coming down the hill before crossing the bridge. Although the site is a little smaller, space for 2 maybe 3 tents, it is perfect for the kind of trip we wanted. We hiked in on Friday afternoon and set up camp. Then on Saturday morning after eating breakfast we headed out on the mill creek loop hike towards the Tenessee trailhead and exploring many of the hidden gems and side trails along the way (see photos of the blue hole and blow hole). The trail starts right at this campsite which was perfect since we could just take day packs and leave most of our gear set up. We then ended the day hiking the last section to go visit the Walls of Jericho and see the falls. Springtime is the best time to be here especially after a big rainstorm since the water levels are higher making everything more dramatic. Overall, although the other sites may be bigger this one is in a great location and has a lot of privacy and great water access.

Small campsite near Hurricane Creek Bridge

The Hurricane Creek campsite is the smallest campsite along the Walls of Jericho trail and is located near the junction of the TN and AL trails and just yards from the Hurricane Creek Bridge. The site is approximately 2.7 miles from the Alabama hikers trailhead parking lot. The campsite is level and large enough to accommodate a handful of tents in close proximity to each other. There are also many trees that would be suitable for hammock camping. The site is mainly shaded and has one large fire ring. 

This is backcountry camping so plan appropriately (no bathroom, pack it in- pack is out). We found ok to weak cell phone service with Verizon at this site. Water can be sourced from Hurricane Creek, but should be treated/filtered.
