Reservations are available at Panther Creek State Park Campground, a drive-in, walk-in, and boat-accessible facility managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation just outside Morristown, Tennessee. The campground follows a gradual uphill loop: sites on the upper curve tend to run larger, while those on the hill are tighter on the sides. RVs are limited to 35 feet, and water hookups are available, with roughly 12 premium sites offering sewer connections. Tent pads max out around 8x8 feet, so campers with larger family tents should plan to use flat grass on their own site. Bring leveling boards.
The layout offers little privacy between sites, a point multiple reviewers mention consistently. Trees ring the outer edges but don't provide much of a buffer between neighbors. That said, noise tends to drop off at night, with rangers and sheriff patrols keeping things orderly. Dusty W. notes the park is "notorious for ticks," so long pants and a thorough check after trail time are worth building into the routine, especially in summer.
Recreation options are one of the campground's stronger draws. A trailhead sits directly within the campground, connecting to a network of hiking and mountain bike trails, with additional trailheads within easy walking or riding distance. Disc golf, tennis courts, a baseball field, volleyball, and lake access with a boat ramp round out the activity list. Fishing on Cherokee Lake draws anglers, and paddleboarding has come up in multiple reviews. Wildlife sightings, including deer, raccoons, and wild turkey, are common around the sites.
Two bathhouses, each with six private rooms containing a sink, shower, and toilet, are kept clean and well-stocked according to consistent reviewer feedback. A small camp store near the campground is open limited hours, and a laundry room and recycling station are also on site. WiFi is available but has been described as slow and unreliable. Cell service also gets mixed marks, so downloading maps or trail guides before arrival is a practical step. For campers who want nearby alternatives, Greenlee Campground RV & Marine LLC sits a few miles northwest, and camping near Talbott provides additional options in the surrounding area.
Panther Creek runs year-round, making it a workable option across seasons. Reserve ahead, check site dimensions before booking, and site 50 comes recommended by at least one recent visitor for its position up in the woods away from road noise.

A capital improvement project to construct a day-use recreation lodge and new playground will begin at the park on Monday, April 13, 2026. The swimming pool parking lot, playground, playground restrooms, beach volleyball and basketball courts will be closed to the public during construction, which is scheduled to be completed by mid-year 2027.
The tennis courts and disc-golf course will remain open but parking for these amenities will be limited to the lots adjacent to the visitor center and Spoone shelter. This project will significantly enhance the quantity and quality of recreational opportunities provided by the park. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to complete this exciting new project for the benefit of our visitors.
