Blue Knob State Park Campground

Been coming for years. There are some great, quiet and wide sites! Bathrooms could use some updating but still very usable! Beautiful area to explore

Very nice campground. We’ve stayed in 2 different spots. Super quiet and relaxing place. Clean bathrooms. Why 4 star? State campgrounds are notorious for supplying wood bundles for too much money and the wood is not dry.

We ended up here on the way from the NJ high point to the PA high point, but this is a neat park. Great trees on the approach drive, decent campground (with some odd terrain parking-wise) and clean showers. Looks like a ton of trails and skiing in the winter. Not sure our travels will bring us back but would happily spend some time on the trails here.

September 2020 Visit

This was a 1-night stay.  The campground is pretty small with <50 sites.  They're not a cramped together as some campgrounds, but there isn't really anything between sites for privacy.  It was chillier than surrounding areas due to being on the mountain.  Since it's small there's no check-in, which was nice as we were getting in after dark as it was.  The campground was pretty much full as it was a weekend.

Site 5 was slightly sloped.  It's listed as tent-only because there isn't really a parking spote for campers, we just parked on the grass.  The site across the gravel road felt closer than the sites on either side.

Trails in the park are quite nice.  Beautiful forest, rocks, and moss.  There was some small trail running race going on, but other than that very few people on the trails.

Nice small campground. Water is available but not at every site. There is water at the dump station. Quiet and somewhat small. Not really any issues, really noisy neighbors on holiday weekend, but you kinda have to expect that. Bring everything you need, it’s about 30 minutes to some supplies. Make sure you bring firewood and be prepared for extremely limited cell service (Verizon).

Plenty of trails to hike from easy to difficult. Local history is right around the corner with the Lost Children of the Alleghenies Monument. Blue Knob houses the second highest peak in PA. The bathrooms were clean. Camp sites are rocky so be sure to bring a mat if tent camping. The park does not offer fire wood for purchase; bring extra.

it’s small, with shaded sites around the perimeter and two walk in sites just left of the entrance. two tent only sites that are not very flat (choose another site if possible) the campground usually has empty sites and the center sites are a little exposed to the sun.

Blue Knob State Park might be my favorite place to camp in Western PA. It sits on the flanks of the second highest peak in the state. The hiking here is really spectacular with lots of scenery, overlooks, and side trails that extend many miles out into state forest lands which are adjacent to the park. The campground is small and fills up pretty fast, so check out an online map and book in advance. Clouds blowing east from the Midwest tend to break on the mountains here at Blue Knob, so short little bursts of rainfall are frequent, and they don't always show up on weather apps. Come prepared for short rain showers, chilly air even in the summer, and great views.

small quiet campground with room for tents and travel trailers at most sites. Two walk in sites that are less than 100 yards off the access road. These two site however are along the main road into the campground so you get a lot of vehicle traffic noise.

Bike trails come directly through the park making it simple to go for a ride but the trails are not for the weak. Lots of climbing or descending and fairly rocky. The trails also lead to the peak (second highest in PA) and join up with trails on the resorts property.
