Mountain air carries the sound of wind through tall trees at Blue Knob State Park Campground, positioned on Pennsylvania's second-highest peak. The small campground accommodates fewer than 50 sites, with spaces for both tents and RVs up to 65 feet. Most sites include electric, water, and sewer hookups, though the rocky terrain requires extra padding for tent campers.
Cooler temperatures persist here year-round due to the elevation, with Brian S. noting campers should "come prepared for short rain showers, chilly air even in the summer, and great views." The campground fills quickly during peak season, requiring advance reservations. Two walk-in sites sit less than 100 yards from the access road but face vehicle noise from the main campground entrance.
Trail access leads directly from the campground into extensive hiking networks that connect with adjacent state forest lands. Mountain biking trails wind through challenging terrain with significant elevation changes. The park's swimming pool operates at the base of the mountain, while winter brings skiing opportunities at the nearby resort. Clean bathhouses serve the campground, though some reviewers suggest bringing firewood since park bundles can be expensive.
Campers seeking different accommodations can explore Twin Fawn House — Blue Knob State Park for a unique lodging alternative nearby.
