September 2020 Stay
This was a 1-night stay. We stayed here because the nearby state parks we were interested in were full for the weekend. It was OK given the circumstances, but I would prefer a state park. The location was on the edge of town. The campground is right up against some people's backyards on one side, separated by a fence. So that felt a bit awkward and not really the secluded in-nature feel we're looking for when camping. We were at site 33 which was on that side right by someone's backyard. Sites were also fairly close with no trees or anything between for privay.
On the bright side, each site has a tent pad on gravel/dirt that is level with no rocks, tree roots, etc. that you might have elsewhere. The site was also right along the GAP so it may be a good place to overnight if you're doing a long bike trip.
September 2020 Visit
This was a 1-night stay. The campground is pretty small with <50 sites. They're not a cramped together as some campgrounds, but there isn't really anything between sites for privacy. It was chillier than surrounding areas due to being on the mountain. Since it's small there's no check-in, which was nice as we were getting in after dark as it was. The campground was pretty much full as it was a weekend.
Site 5 was slightly sloped. It's listed as tent-only because there isn't really a parking spote for campers, we just parked on the grass. The site across the gravel road felt closer than the sites on either side.
Trails in the park are quite nice. Beautiful forest, rocks, and moss. There was some small trail running race going on, but other than that very few people on the trails.
August 2020 Stay
We camped for 1 night. We chose site 102 because it looked decent in the picture and seemed a little apart and more private than other areas. Unfortunately, it was not great for tent camping as there wasn't really a spot to set up our 4-person tent. We squeezed it in by the fire pit, but if we had wanted to use the fire pit it would have been a fire hazard. Elsewhere in the site it was rocky or uneven ground.
Looking around the rest of the campground, the loop up near the cabins was a typical RV area with sites lined up with little privacy in between. I would look at the other loops for our next tent-camping visit.
We were hoping to do some hiking in the morning but got rained out. However the trails looked nice and we hope to be back soon.
