Reservations are available and worth making early: Sleeper State Park Campground fills quickly, particularly on summer weekends, and its 226 sites spread across two loops give campers a range of options from electric hookups to a handful of tent-only spots. Rates run $35 to $120 per night, and the park operates April 1 through October 31. The campground sits directly off M-25, a few miles north of Caseville, and sites near the highway entrance pick up road noise, especially late at night. Campers consistently recommend requesting a site toward the back of the loops to put more distance between their tent and passing traffic.
The campground is built on what reviewers describe as ancient dune terrain, so most sites are sandy and drain relatively quickly after rain. Heavy shade covers the majority of the property. Sites vary in levelness, with the eastern loop tending toward flatter ground, though some spots on unlevel terrain have drawn criticism from larger trailer users who found maneuvering difficult. Gary G. notes the bathhouses are "nothing fancy, but have been clean in my experiences," a sentiment echoed across multiple reviews. The camp host keeps coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available mornings and runs afternoon activities for kids.
Beach access is a central draw. Saginaw Bay shoreline sits directly across M-25, reachable via a pedestrian overpass that eliminates any need to cross traffic. The beach includes a pet-friendly section, which has made the campground a repeat destination for dog owners. Kayak rentals are available through the park at $10 for two hours, and the park has hiking trails. A farmers market in Port Austin runs on Saturdays and is within a short drive. Nearby options like Port Crescent State Park Campground and Oak Beach County Park Campground give campers additional choices along this stretch of the Thumb.
Even at capacity, the atmosphere tends to stay low-key. Tyler H. found that "everyone was respectful and the whole campground was pretty quiet despite being essentially full" during a late September weekend visit. Weekdays are noticeably calmer than holiday weekends. RVs up to 50 feet can be accommodated with electric, water, and sewer hookups, and a dump station is on site. Firewood sells for $5 a bundle at the park office. Booking a loop-interior site well in advance of peak summer dates is the most reliable way to get both shade and distance from highway noise.
