Cooper Lake State Park's South Sulphur Unit encompasses several distinct camping areas, and Bright Star Campground sits close to the lake's edge with full-hookup sites designed to accommodate large rigs. Paved roads run throughout the loop, and site pads are concrete, which makes setup straightforward after wet weather, though a few pull-throughs and back-in junctions have collected mud in low spots following heavy rain. Campers who want a different setup nearby can compare notes with Oak Grove Campground — Cooper Lake State Park South Sulphur Unit just to the northwest.
Sites are well-spaced, and reviewers consistently note the campground stays clean and well-maintained. One reviewer in site 8 found it "spacious and felt very private" despite knowing other sites were close by. Cell coverage is a practical consideration here: AT&T users have reported a single bar of LTE with speeds around 0.1 MB/s, while Starlink performed reliably with clear northern sightlines. Weeknight occupancy can be light, with only a handful of rigs on the grounds at a time, though the day-use beach and boat ramp draw more visitors during warmer months.
Lake access from within the camping area is limited. Paths to the water run through individual sites rather than along a dedicated corridor, which can make it feel awkward to pass through when those sites are occupied. A separate day-use area provides beach swimming and a dock, but it can fill quickly on busy weekends. Firewood is available for purchase at the park entrance, though reviewers flag it as pricier than expected. The Buggy Whip Equestrian Campground — Cooper Lake State Park South Sulphur Unit is a short distance west for those bringing horses.
