Walk In Campsite & Shelters — Kettle Moraine State Forest - Lapham Peak Unit

Description

Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking and backpacking opportunities along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Visitors can climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County. During winter cross-country skiing is available on lighted trails. A backpack shelter along the Ice Age Trail and several picnic shelters are reservable. An outdoor stage at the property offers a unique venue for summer performances. There are also rooms for large group events within the Hausmann Nature Center. Both the summer stage and nature center rooms can be reserved by contacting the property office.

This backpack campsite along the Ice Age Trail is approximately 0.25 miles downhill from the Tower parking lot or approximately 1 mile uphill from the Evergreen parking lot. A covered shelter is provided, along with a covered outhouse/toilet. Firewood is provided for donations that help with maintaining the parks habitat. Campers should plan to carry in their own supplies and gear and carry out any refuse generated on site. The main gate to the property closes at 9 p.m.
