Reservations are available at Hayward KOA, and booking ahead is advisable, particularly for holiday weekends when the campground draws large family groups and sites fill quickly. The campground sits in forested terrain near a river, with tall pines shading many of the sites. Highway proximity is a real factor here: sites closer to the road pick up traffic noise, including at night, while sites farther back are noticeably quieter. Campers with large rigs should call ahead, as the tree cover and site layout can make maneuvering difficult. One reviewer with a 43-foot fifth wheel noted there are only a handful of sites that would be easy to access.
The activity lineup is extensive for a campground of this type. A heated pool, waterslide, mini golf, jump pillow, horseshoes, volleyball, and multiple playgrounds keep younger campers occupied throughout the day. River tubing is a standout feature, with shuttle service provided. Additional paid amenities include bike rentals, a snack bar, and an arcade. Themed weekends and organized activities like wagon rides and crafts add to the family-oriented atmosphere. Lynn N. sums up the basics well: "Bathrooms are clean, showers are hot."
Sites are pull-through but run narrow, and the campground can feel packed during busy stretches. Multiple reviewers mention that two vehicles plus a camper on a single site is a tight fit, so coordinating with your group about parking before arrival saves headaches. WiFi is available but has been reported as inconsistent during peak occupancy.
RVs up to 50 feet are accommodated with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, plus a dump station on site. The campground is open from May through early October. Nearby, Arrowhead Resort, Revelles Resort and Campground, and Phipps Landing provide alternatives for those exploring camping spots near Hayward. For the best site selection and to avoid the noise of road-adjacent spots, book early and request a site toward the back of the campground when making your reservation.
