Hikers and paddlers find boat-in and hike-in access to Chippewa Moraine State Recreation Area, managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The recreation area requires advance planning since traditional vehicle camping isn't available. Campers must carry gear to designated sites.
The area sits within Wisconsin's glacial landscape, offering trails through moraine formations and access to area lakes. Salisbury Resort provides vehicle-accessible camping 2.2 miles northwest for those preferring traditional amenities.
Description

One of nine units of the Ice Age National Scientific Reserve, hiking, snowshoeing, fishing and bird watching are popular activities. The David R. Obey Ice Age Interpretive Center houses first-class glacial, cultural and natural history displays. Three outpost campsites can be found at the property.
