Quiet, Underrated, and Dated

This campground rests by Bluestone Lake, which is where the Bluestone River runs runs into the New River. Meador CG is up the Bluestone portion of the lake and the backwaters do have a swampy appearance. The area is gorgeous with tons to do at both Bluestone State Park, Pipestem State Park (short 20 min drive, and the broader New River area.

The campground is very quiet and well spaced. Our site was one of only a handful with water and electric but there is a dump station on the way out of the campground area.

The bathrooms and other facilities are a little dated but the campground is very clean. There is an outdoor pool within walking distance of campground but the playgrounds need upgraded. Lots of space to run around for the kids. It rained one day we were there and we took a quick drive to Pipestem and swam in the heated, indoor pool that is included in camping fee.

Decent bathhouse but skunks

Stayed here with friends and everything was good except the fact that there were about a half dozen skunks. Kinda kept me on edge.

Great place

We stayed first week of October 2023. Campground was empty. Beautiful area. Only disappointing thing they have only tent sites near the water. It would have been nice if there were a few Rv sites near the water.

Tremendous Experience

I have tent camped at the Meador campgrounds twice in the last year. Both visits were wonderful. The views from the roads are incredible. The campgrounds are great for biking and hiking trails.

I have tented camped twice at this state park … both at Meador. I really enjoyed both visits. The park is awesome with beautiful views and many roads to bike on. Also significant trails.

Nice water views!

We stayed in Meador site 14, which was the furthest away from the bath house (still only maybe 150 yards), but it was on the water & was the most secluded (just meaning it's at the end of the row not between other spots). It was freshly mowed, had a fire ring, picnic table, & was right on the water with nice views of the lake & mountains. There were also TONS of deer all around (just hanging out eating vegetation) during our short one night stay.

Additionally, there was a nice trailhead right nearby.

We were there on a Sunday night & there were probly only 4 or 5 other sites occupied out of 20 or 30 total.

*Site 15 was nice & shady, as well as being on the end of the row.

Nice place.

It’s a nice campground, well kept. Spots are too close together so privacy is lacking. All the roads are paved making it easy for the little ones to ride bikes.

Cabins

We stayed a weekend in one of the many cabins at the Campground; pet friendly! The RV/Tent camping sites were closed. Cabin was stocked with minimal kitchen ware, we brought in our groceries, in the town of Hinton there are a couple of grocery stores; so easy access. There was a picnic table and satellite TV; to our surprise. Cabin had a fireplace, two bedrooms and one bath. Very quiet!

Thumbs up and we will likely stay there again, will look into bringing our TT to check out the RV/Tent areas.

Meadows Campground at Bluestone State Park

Nice shady campsites. Plenty of trees for my hammock! Nice bathhouse. There are 2 hiking trails right there at the campground. Also near the river and the pool!
