RVs only, no tents allowed: that's the first thing to know about Wenatchee River County Park before making a reservation. Managed by Chelan County and open April 1 through October 31, this drive-in campground in Monitor, Washington provides full hookups (electric, water, and sewer) on paved, level sites with a 50-foot maximum length. Sites run $40 per night with no additional taxes or fees, and same-day reservations require a phone call or walk-in; advance bookings can be made online. The campground accepts Passport America discounts on weeknights during April and October only.
Noise is the most consistent theme across reviews, and campers should know what they're getting into. Highway 2 runs along one side of the park, and active railroad tracks border another. Train horns sound at all hours. That said, multiple reviewers note the noise levels off after 10 p.m. and resumes around 6 a.m., and several say it didn't significantly affect their stay. "The sites are spread out nicely, never feeling crowded," notes eric J., which helps offset the industrial backdrop.
Cleanliness is a standout feature here. Restrooms are well-maintained, and coin-operated showers ($0.25 for four minutes) are consistently described as hot and clean. A small laundry room has two washers and two dryers, payable by credit card or app at $2.50 per load. The campground also has a book exchange, a fenced off-leash dog run, ice for sale, a dump station, propane fill (not available Sundays), and free WiFi that reviewers report works reliably. Cell reception is also described as good.
The Wenatchee River runs along the park, though access to the water is limited. The riverbank is overgrown and undeveloped, with fast-moving water and swim-at-own-risk signage. Campers looking for campgrounds near Monitor with more dispersed or tent-friendly options may find Horse Lake Road Dispersed -- Wenatchee Foothills a useful alternative. The park's location between Leavenworth and Wenatchee makes it a functional base for day trips to either town. Tobacco products are strictly prohibited throughout the grounds, and staff may ask about dog breeds at check-in. Book early for summer weekends; shoulder season in April and October offers lower rates and Passport America eligibility.
