Reservations are recommended at Kid Valley Campground, especially Thursday through Sunday when sites fill quickly and walk-ins may end up in the open field. Rates run $25-$35 per night, with full hookup sites (electric, water, and sewer) positioned at the top of a hill above the Toutle River. RVs up to 45 feet can be accommodated. The campground sits in a mix of forested and open terrain near camping near Toutle, making it a functional base for day trips toward Mount St. Helens.
Cell service is essentially nonexistent here, and tree cover makes satellite internet unreliable even in the open central field. Campers who need connectivity should plan accordingly. A steep trail leads from some sites down to the river, though the grade is notable enough that it may be challenging for younger kids. Firewood is available on-site when supply lasts, and a trail connects to a restaurant next door. The Kid Valley Store & Recreational Vehicle Park is within a short distance for additional camping options nearby.
"Campground was simple, full hookup at the top of a hill above a small river," notes Bo L., which captures the no-frills character well. Showers are coin-operated at $0.25 per two minutes, and ice is sold on-site. Bathrooms are consistently described as clean across multiple reviews. Pets are allowed, and the campground has a grassy area with horseshoes and a play area. Arrive early on weekends to secure a hookup site rather than a field spot.
Description
Set in a quiet forest, in an old homestead, the park offers a convenient base for sightseeing, hiking and biking the Mt. St. Helens area. Kid Valley Campground is also located close to fishing opportunities at nearby lakes and the famous Toutle River.
Winter activities include hunting, crosscountry skiing, and snowmobiling in the nearby area, including the Toutle state forest, with 35,000 acres open to snowmobiling.
We are located adjacent to the Toutle River and a few miles from the Green River, both of which have recovered from the volcanic mudflows and offer great salmon and steelhead fishing. We are a short drive from fly-fishing at Coldwater Lake and bass and trout fishing in Silver Lake. Year around elk viewing is popular on the road to Mount St. Helens and hunting in the Winston, Toutle, Coweeman and Margaret units are nearby, too. Call for special hunting season rates.
