Tucked-Away Lot with Room to Spread Out

Located just off Sunset Hills Road with quick connections to the Dulles Toll Road and Route 7, this Home Depot in the Reston area offers a convenient and relatively calm overnight option compared to denser retail hubs. The lot is large, paved, and generally well-kept, with a mostly level surface that makes setup easy after a long drive. The layout provides multiple areas to settle in, and RVs and trucks will do best along the far edges of the lot, particularly near the garden center side or along the back perimeter where there is less traffic and more space to park comfortably.

Immediate amenities are solid, with several gas stations, casual dining spots, and small retail options just a short drive away. During store hours, the interior is clean and well-lit, and the parking lot lighting remains strong overnight, contributing to a safe and visible environment. Traffic is moderate in the evening but drops off nicely later at night, leaving behind a quieter atmosphere than you might expect for Northern Virginia, though you may still hear some distant road noise.

Beyond the immediate area, you are close to several green spaces that offer a refreshing break from the road, including Lake Fairfax Park, where you can enjoy walking trails, wooded scenery, and a peaceful start to the morning. Reston Town Center is also nearby if you need more dining or shopping options. While it is not a secluded overnight destination, this location strikes a nice balance between accessibility, safety, and a touch of nearby nature.

While scoring criteria may vary from one person to the next, here are the 5 most important criteria that informed my rating of this overnight location: convenience (EZ on- and off-access), safety & security, quality (of facilities), peace & quiet and amenities (either on-site or nearby).

Convenience: 4

Safety & Security: 4

Quality: 4

Peace & Quiet: 4

Amenities: 4

Overall Score: 4

Happy Overnighting!
