Within Green Mountain National Forest, Seth Warner Shelter provides free backcountry camping for hikers traveling the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail. This hike-in shelter requires a 0.2-mile walk from the trail junction and accommodates 6-7 people with a fire pit and basic amenities including toilets and picnic tables.
The shelter serves as an overnight stop for section hikers and through-hikers, located approximately 6 miles from the nearest town. Campers arriving to find the shelter full can set up tents or hammocks on several flat spots surrounding the structure. Food storage requires hanging due to bears and raccoons in the area, and fire conditions vary with the typically wet trail conditions.
